While the city itself is bustling with activity, sometimes a weekend getaway is just what you need to recharge. From the popular tourist spots to hidden gems off the beaten path, there's something for every type of traveler. Here are seven fun weekend getaways that are easily accessible from Colombo, including three unusual destinations for those looking to venture beyond the typical tourist trail.

Galle

Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-visit for anyone living in or visiting Colombo. The city is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture and the Galle Fort, which offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Wander through the cobblestone streets, visit the historic lighthouse, and explore the various boutique shops and art galleries. The fort's ramparts are perfect for a leisurely stroll, especially during sunset.

How to Get There: The easiest way to get to Galle is by train or highway bus. The journey takes approximately 2 to 3 hours from Colombo Fort Station, with scenic views along the coast.

Travel Tip: Don't miss the chance to watch a cricket match at the Galle International Stadium, known for being one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the world.

Where to Stay: The Galle Fort Hotel is a great option, offering a blend of luxury and history, with an inviting pool and courtyard dining.

Kandy

Adam's Peak (Sri Pada)

Jaffna
