Digital nomads are individuals who leverage technology to work remotely and live an itinerant lifestyle. As the trend of remote work grows, many countries are introducing specific visas to cater to this new class of workers. Czechia (the Czech Republic) has become an attractive destination for digital nomads due to its rich culture, affordable cost of living, and central location in Europe. While Czechia does not have a visa explicitly labeled as a "digital nomad visa," the country offers a visa that is suitable for long-term business activities, which can be used by digital nomads who wish to reside in Czechia for an extended period.

Eligibility and Visa Type

Digital nomads looking to stay in Czechia may apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of business. This visa allows individuals to live and carry out income-generating activities within the country. To be eligible, applicants must prove that they have a plan to conduct business, which can include freelance work or remote work for a company outside of Czechia.

Application Steps

The first step in applying for a long-term business visa is to gather all necessary documents. This typically includes proof of accommodation, a clean criminal record, proof of financial resources, health insurance, and a business plan outlining the intended activities in Czechia. Additionally, applicants must fill out an application form and schedule an appointment at the nearest Czech embassy or consulate.

Once the application is submitted, the processing time can take several weeks or months. During this time, the Czech Ministry of the Interior may request additional documentation or an interview. It is crucial to respond promptly to any inquiries to avoid delays in the application process.

After the visa is granted, digital nomads must register with the Foreign Police within three working days of their arrival in Czechia. They must also fulfill any additional requirements, such as reporting changes of address or renewing their visa before it expires.

Official Departments and Agencies

The primary point of contact for obtaining a long-term business visa is the Czech Ministry of the Interior. They oversee the visa application process and provide guidance on the requirements and procedures. Additionally, the Czech embassies and consulates around the world are responsible for accepting visa applications and conducting interviews.

For more detailed information on the application process, required documents, and to schedule an appointment, digital nomads should refer to the following official resources:

It is important to note that visa regulations and requirements can change, so it is advisable to check the latest information from the official sources provided above.
