Visa Information for Iceland - Digital Nomad Visa for Iceland

Iceland, with its stunning landscapes and robust internet infrastructure, has become an attractive destination for digital nomads seeking to combine work and travel. To cater to this growing community, Iceland has introduced a visa specifically designed for remote workers, including digital nomads. Here's how you can obtain a digital nomad visa for Iceland.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the digital nomad visa, ensure that you meet the following criteria:

  • You can prove that you are employed with a company outside of Iceland or conduct business with companies outside of Iceland.
  • You have the financial means to support yourself during your stay. This typically means having a monthly income of at least ISK 1,000,000 for an individual or ISK 1,300,000 if accompanied by a spouse.
  • You do not require a visa to travel to Iceland for a short stay (up to 90 days).

Application Process

To apply for the digital nomad visa, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the application form for a long-term visa, which is available on the Directorate of Immigration's website.
  2. Gather all required documents, including proof of employment or business activities, proof of income, and health insurance coverage for your stay in Iceland.
  3. Submit the application form along with the documents to the Directorate of Immigration. You may need to schedule an appointment to submit your application in person or send it via mail, depending on the current procedures.
  4. Pay the application fee, which is subject to change, so check the latest fee on the Directorate of Immigration's website.
  5. Wait for the processing of your application. The processing time can vary, so it's advisable to apply well in advance of your intended travel date.

Staying in Iceland

Once your digital nomad visa is approved, you will be allowed to stay in Iceland for up to six months, with the possibility of extending for an additional six months. During your stay, you must abide by Icelandic laws and regulations, including those related to taxation. It's important to note that the digital nomad visa does not permit you to work for Icelandic companies or enter the Icelandic labor market.

Official Departments and Agencies

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, and to access the application forms and details about the required documents, you should refer to the official websites of the relevant Icelandic authorities. Here are the links to the websites where you can find all the necessary information:
