Apply for Antigua and Barbuda Nomad Digital Residence Program

Antigua and Barbuda offers a "long-stay visa programme, entitled 'Nomad Digital Residence' (NDR). The programme is designed for persons whose work can be done remotely and are desirous of doing so from a safe Caribbean island with all modern amenities, including reliable and fast telecommunications to the world."

Antigua and Barbuda introduced their visa, as many other popular tourist destinations did, to address the revenues lost due to the worldwide travel industry coming to an abrupt halt. As its name would suggest, this island nation is comprised primarily of the two islands of Antigua and Barbuda, though several other islands are also part of the country. Most of the population lives on Antigua, where the capital city of St. John's is located.

Aruba

Apply for Aruba's ED Card

In September 2020, Aruba launched the One Happy Workstation program, which allows eligible visitors to stay and work remotely for up to 3 months. The program includes discounted hotel and villa stays (at participating hotels). Many packages include complimentary breakfast, free wi-fi and other perks. The program is currently open to US nationals with a valid US passport who are employed by a company in their home country or self employed.

Currently, visitors to Aruba are required to purchase Aruba Visitors Insurance. The cost of the insurance is very low. It is advised that you also purchase travel health insurance that covers medical evacuation for COVID-19 and other medical emergencies in the event that you need a higher level of care. The US State Department wrote, "Access to quality medical care is limited in Aruba, and facilities may not offer the health and service standards typically expected in the United States. We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation. Critically ill patients requiring services unavailable in Aruba are transferred to neighboring countries, such as Colombia, at the patient's expense. If medical evacuation is authorized by the patient's insurance carrier or funded privately (approximately $15,000 - 25,000), patients can be transferred to the United States."

Bahamas

Apply for Bahamas BEATS Program

The Bahamas is welcoming students and remote workers to spend up to a year studying and working remotely from any of the 16 main islands currently welcoming travelers, which includes Paradise Island (Nassau), Grand Bahama Island (Freeport), Eleuthera, Harbor Island, The Abacos, Bimini, The Exumas and others. The BEATS Program, which is short for Bahamas Extended Access Travel Stay, has an online application, fees of $500 - $1,000 BSD per person + nominal application and travel health visa fees. "Married Couples will be required to submit separate applications if both parties intend to work from The Bahamas. However, only one of these applicants will need to apply on behalf of mutual dependents," notes the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

Barbados

Apply for Barbados Welcome Stamp

Barbados introduced the 12 month Barbados Welcome Stamp in July of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are looking for a beautiful island escape where you can work and relax, Barbados may be the perfect spot. Barbados re-opened their airport on July 12, 2020 and has established official travel protocols to, "protect, both locals and visitors while on island".

According to the Welcome Stamp FAQs, "Valid medical insurance is a prerequisite for approval of your Welcome Stamp application."

How long does it take for your application to be processed? According to the FAQ page , "Your application will begin processing within 48 hours of receiving a complete application. A visa will be processed and confirmed or denied in 5 working days or less."

Bermuda

Apply for Work from Bermuda Certificate

As of August 2020, Bermuda's Ministry of Labour through the Department of Immigration began a program similar to Barbados' program which offers a 1-Year Residential Certificate to allow temporary residents, such as Digital Nomads, to work remotely from Bermuda. Non-Bermudan Post-Secondary students are also allowed to complete their higher education from Bermuda. "If you are working remotely from home, please take the opportunity to explore the option of working remotely from Bermuda for the next year. Bermuda is safe, Bermuda is friendly, Bermuda is close and Bermuda is beautiful," wrote E. David Burt, JP, MP, Premier of Bermuda.

Applicants must be 18+ (unless dependents), not have been convicted of a crime, possess health insurance coverage, proof of employment or proof of student status and sufficient income. It's important to know that the cost of living in Bermuda is high and digital nomads and expats always caution people considering a move to Bermuda about it. One member said, "don't [move], unless you have... a housing allowance of at least $2500. You will not be able to rent ANYTHING for less than that, and a decent apartment will cost $5000 up. Everything is VERY expensive, especially food." Another member said, "you will need up to $2500 per month for housing if living alone, $400 for mobile, internet and TV, $500 per month for gas, electricity, which leaves you with enough for food and clothes. Plus capital outlay of $3K for moped or twice that for car."

"King Edward Memorial Hospital is the only general hospital on the island. It has the usual departments one would expect and most basic problems can be managed on island. Many people however choose or are advised to go overseas for surgery or complex problems. All medical care on island is private, bar a minority of local people with just the basic government health cover. The hospital is on the outskirts of Hamilton city and within 12 miles of any part on the island," wrote one member in a report about healthcare in Bermuda

It's hard to imagine a more exotic location than Cambodia, and digital nomads also love it for it's extremely low cost of living and well-distributed, high-speed wifi. Take note that there is a monsoon season and summer... not much else! If you plan to stay 30 days or less you can opt for Visa T. If there's a chance you'll want to extend your stay, you'll need Visa E. Visa upon arrival is an option, and some nomads say this is preferable.

Cayman Islands

Apply for Global Citizen Concierge Program

In October of 2020, the Cayman Islands announced the introduction of the Global Citizen Concierge Program which allows qualified applicants to stay in the Cayman Islands for up to 2 years. The Czech Republic is a phenomenal destination that is loved by digital nomads and expats and digital nomads alike. Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and it has so much to do and an energy that is palpable.

There is a slight rub, however, because there isn't a visa available that was created specifically for digital nomads. That won't matter for those who are able to fall within the criteria of Entrepreneur. This means you are not an employee of a company, but instead you provide services to clients and will obtain a trade license in the Czech Republic, which is known as a Zivnostenske opravneni or "Zivno." (You may hear people mistakenly refer to Zivno as a visa, but it is not a visa... it is a trade license.) Having a specialist firm help you with your visa is highly recommended since there is a specific process to follow in submitting all of the paperwork and it needs to be done in Czech.

Dominica

Dubai, UAE

Requirements & Documents: Passport valid for at least 6 months and health insurance valid for coverage in the UAE. Business owners must provide proof of ownership for at least one year and an average monthly income of $5,000 dollars (U.S.), and bank statements for the previous 3 months. Employees of companies they do not own must provide proof of employment with a one-year contract valid for one year, a pay slip for the previous month and bank statements for the previous 3 months. Interested in spending a year working remotely from Estonia? Estonia launched their Digital Nomad Visa in August 2020 -- inviting digital nomads to spend up to 12 months in Estonia. You will need to have a monthly income of at least �3504.

"Medical care in Estonia falls short of Western standards outside the larger cities such as Tallinn, Tartu, and P�rnu. Many medical professionals in Estonia are highly-trained, but some hospitals and clinics still suffer from a lack of equipment and resources. Many doctors speak at least some English. Apply for Remotely from Georgia Program

Georgia's "Remotely from Georgia" application launched on August 27, 2020. Freelancers, business owners or full-time employees from 95 countries, who are able to stay at least 180 days, are invited to apply. They must be able to prove that they are able to pay taxes and have a monthly income of at least $2,000.

If your application is approved and you go to Georgia, you will be required to quarantine for 12 days in a hotel (at your own expense). After quarantine, the applicant will undergo PCR Testing (Polymerise Chain Reaction test, which is a COVID-19 diagnostic test - not an antibody test) and if no signs on coronavirus are apparent, the applicant may stay in Georgia.

It's important to note that applicants must have health insurance coverage while in Georgia. "a foreigner must have health insurance for the period of time that he/she is going to spend in Georgia," stated the government publication on Agenda.ge. In terms of the quality of medical care in Georgia, the US State Department wrote, "Outside major cities, medical facilities in Georgia are limited. The U.S. Embassy maintains a list of English-speaking doctors. Elderly travelers and those with existing health problems may be at risk due to inadequate medical facilities. Ensure food is cooked thoroughly to reduce the risk of food-borne illness."

Germany

Iceland

Fees: Yearly Fee of 7,800 ISK (about $922 US dollars)

One of the buzz words you'll hear thrown around when discussing Mexico's tourist visa is generous, as it offers 180 days a year. That's probably enough for a lot of nomads, but if not you can apply for temporary residency visa. Importantly - temporary residency visas cannot be applied for in Mexico. It must be done at a consulate or embassy outside of Mexico, and within your country of citizenship is preferred.

Montserrat
