From historical sites to natural beauty, the city is full of free activities that cater to a wide range of interests. Here are nine free things to do in Sarajevo that mix popular attractions with some lesser-known gems.

Baš?aršija

Baš?aršija is Sarajevo's old bazaar and the historical and cultural center of the city. As you wander through its cobbled streets, you'll be transported back in time. The area is filled with Ottoman-era architecture, mosques, and traditional shops selling handmade crafts and souvenirs. It's a perfect place to experience the city's history and enjoy the lively atmosphere without spending a dime.

Location: Baš?aršija, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia & Herzegovina. It's situated in the heart of Sarajevo, easily accessible by public transport.

Travel Tip: Visit Baš?aršija in the morning to enjoy a quieter atmosphere and take the best photos without the crowds.

Nearby: Stop by ?ajdžinica Džirlo, a traditional tea house, to try some authentic Bosnian tea or coffee after your stroll through Baš?aršija.

Vrelo Bosne

Vrelo Bosne is the spring of the River Bosna and is located at the foot of Mount Igman. This natural park is a tranquil oasis perfect for picnics, walks, and enjoying the lush greenery. The park features crystal-clear streams, small waterfalls, and a variety of plants and wildlife. It's a great spot for digital nomads to unwind and reconnect with nature.

Location: Ilidža, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia & Herzegovina. The entrance to the park is at the western end of Ilidža.

Travel Tip: Rent a bike in Ilidža to ride through the beautiful alley lined with trees leading to Vrelo Bosne.

Nearby: After visiting the park, enjoy a meal at Restaurant Park Prin?eva, known for its traditional Bosnian cuisine and views of the surrounding nature.

Yellow Fortress (Žuta Tabija)

The Yellow Fortress, or Žuta Tabija, is a historic fort offering some of the best panoramic views of Sarajevo. It's particularly popular at sunset when the city is bathed in golden light. The fortress is a remnant of the old defensive walls of the city and is a great place for history buffs and photographers alike.

Sarajevo Roses

Location: Zmaja od Bosne 5, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia & Herzegovina. The museum is situated near the National Museum and the University Campus.

The mountain was once home to the bobsleigh track used in the 1984 Winter Olympics, and the remnants can still be explored today.

Location: Trebevi? Mountain, accessible from Sarajevo by foot, car, or cable car (note that the cable car has a fee).
