Many expats choose to live in larger cities such as Tirana, where they can find a variety of housing options, from luxury apartments to more affordable options. Expats can also find homes and apartments in smaller towns and villages, which offer a more traditional lifestyle and a slower pace of life. In general, expat homes and apartments in Albania are well-maintained and offer a comfortable living environment," remarked one expat in Albania.

What is the average cost of housing in Albania?

If you are thinking about moving to Albania, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

Should I buy or rent a home in Albania?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Albania, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in Albania can be a great investment, as the country is becoming increasingly popular with tourists and expats. However, it is important to consider the cost of living in Albania, as well as the availability of housing, before making a decision. Renting a home in Albania can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to buying a home, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more cost-effective in the short-term. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Albania should be based on individual needs and preferences," remarked one expat in Albania.

What should I pack when moving to Albania?

We asked people living in Albania to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"When moving to Albania, it is important to pack items that will help you adjust to the climate and culture. Pack clothing that is appropriate for the weather, such as light layers for the summer and warm layers for the winter. Bring comfortable shoes for walking and exploring the country. It is also important to bring items that will help you feel at home, such as pictures of family and friends, books, and music. Additionally, it is a good idea to bring a first aid kit, a flashlight, and a map of the area. Finally, make sure to bring any necessary documents, such as a passport and visa," commented one expat who made the move to Albania.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Albania?

We asked people in Albania if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:

"It is important to be aware of cultural differences when visiting Albania. It is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions, and to dress modestly. Avoid making negative comments about the country or its people, and be aware that Albanians are very proud of their culture and language. It is also important to be aware that Albanians are very hospitable and generous, so it is considered rude to refuse an offer of food or drink. Additionally, it is important to be aware that Albanians are very religious, so it is important to be respectful of religious sites and to avoid discussing religion in public," remarked one expat who made the move to Albania.
