Digital Nomad Life in Bermuda
Summary: Bermuda is not a popular destination for digital nomads. The most popular cities for digital nomads are generally in Europe, such as Berlin, Barcelona, and Lisbon. Digital nomads may be attracted to Bermuda for its warm climate, beautiful beaches, and relaxed lifestyle. A digital nomad in Bermuda can expect to live on a monthly budget of around $2,500 to $3,000 USD. This budget should cover accommodation, food, transportation, and other expenses. The culture of Bermuda is a mix of British and Caribbean influences. The island is known for its friendly locals, beautiful beaches, and vibrant nightlife. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, such as sailing, snorkeling, and hiking.
How do I meet people in Bermuda?
When we asked people living in Bermuda about club and activities where newcomers can meet others, they responded:
"Expats in Bermuda often join clubs and activities such as sailing, golf, tennis, and other outdoor activities. Expats can also join social clubs, such as the Bermuda Expats Club, which organizes events and activities for expats to meet and socialize. Additionally, expats can meet people by attending local events, such as festivals, concerts, and art shows. Expats can also meet people by attending church services, joining a gym, or taking classes at a local college or university," said one person in Bermuda.
"Join a sports team (even as a social member). There are lots such as football, rugby, hockey. Go to Front Street where all the expats hang out in the bars," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Hamilton.
What is life like in Bermuda?
When we asked people living in Bermuda what life is like and how people spend their time, they said:
"Life for expats and digital nomads in Bermuda is generally quite pleasant. The island is known for its stunning beaches, crystal clear waters, and vibrant culture. Expats and digital nomads can enjoy a relaxed lifestyle, with plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors and take part in a variety of activities. Bermuda is also a great place to work remotely, with reliable internet access and a supportive business environment. The cost of living is relatively high, but the quality of life is excellent. Expats and digital nomads can also benefit from the island's excellent healthcare system and low crime rate," explained one expat living in Bermuda.
"People seem intent on making money. Bermuda is a nice place to visit but to work here as a white expat, you will encounter a certain amount of racism and resentment," said one person in Hamilton.
Where should I live in Bermuda?
We asked digital nomads and expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:
"The best way to find a place to live in Bermuda is to start by researching online. There are a variety of websites that list rental properties in Bermuda, such as Bermuda Rentals, Bermuda Real Estate, and Bermuda Property Listings. Additionally, you can search for rental properties on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. You can also contact local real estate agents who specialize in Bermuda rentals. Finally, you can look for rental postings in local newspapers and magazines," explained one expat living in Bermuda.
"I took a tour with a couple of real estate rental agents. They are frank and give you a good idea of the neighborhood and its constraints/positives," said one person in Bermuda.
What do I need to know before moving to Bermuda?
When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Bermuda, they said:
"Do not come. On paper the salary looks good but a loaf of bread is US $3 and a half decent place to live is US$ 3000 a month. You have to be on a good package of 100K or more plus apartment thrown in to be OP here," said one expat who made the move to Hamilton.
"Before retiring in Bermuda, expats should be aware of the cost of living, which is higher than in many other countries. They should also research the local housing market and the availability of rental properties. Additionally, expats should familiarize themselves with the local laws and regulations, as well as the tax system. It is also important to consider the climate and the island's hurricane season. Finally, expats should research the local healthcare system and the availability of medical services," explained one foreigner living in Bermuda.

What do people find most challenging about the culture in Bermuda?
"Expats in Bermuda often find the local culture to be quite different from what they are used to. What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Bermuda for a while?
"If you plan to stay in Bermuda for an extended period of time, you will need to apply for a Bermuda Residence Certificate. This document is issued by the Bermuda Immigration Department and is required for anyone who wishes to stay in Bermuda for more than six months. Additionally, you may need to apply for a Bermuda Work Permit if you plan to work while in Bermuda. Depending on your nationality, you may also need to apply for a Bermuda Visitor's Visa," remarked one member in Bermuda.
