The most popular cities for digital nomads in Cameroon are Yaoundé, Douala, and Buea. Digital nomads are drawn to Cameroon for its low cost of living, diverse culture, and friendly people. A digital nomad in Cameroon can live comfortably on a monthly budget of around $1,000 USD. Cameroon is a culturally diverse country, with over 200 ethnic groups and a variety of languages spoken. The culture of Cameroon is heavily influenced by its colonial history, with French and English being the two official languages. Foods popular in Cameroon include plantains, cassava, yams, and maize. Other popular dishes include ndole (a stew made with bitter leaves), koki (a cornmeal dish), and mbongo (a spicy fish stew). Cameroon is also known for its delicious street food, such as grilled chicken, plantains, and kebabs.

Expats can also meet people by attending local festivals, visiting local markets, and exploring the city. Additionally, many expats join online forums and social media groups to connect with other expats living in Cameroon," said one person in Cameroon.

When we asked people living in Cameroon what life is like and how people spend their time, they said:

"Living as an expat or digital nomad in Cameroon can be an exciting and rewarding experience. The country is known for its friendly people, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes. Expats and digital nomads can find a wide range of accommodation options, from luxury apartments to budget-friendly hostels. The cost of living is relatively low, making it an attractive destination for those looking to stretch their budget. Cameroon is also home to a diverse range of activities, from exploring the country's national parks to sampling its delicious cuisine. Expats and digital nomads can also take advantage of the country's excellent internet infrastructure, making it easy to stay connected while living abroad," said one person in Cameroon.

Where should I live in Cameroon?

We asked digital nomads and expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"Finding a place to live in Cameroon can be a challenge, but there are a few options available. One option is to look for rental properties online, such as on websites like Expat.com or Global Property Guide. You can also search for rental properties in local newspapers or contact real estate agents in the area. Additionally, you can look for furnished apartments or houses for rent on websites like Airbnb or HomeAway. Finally, you can also ask around in your local community for recommendations on places to rent," said one person in Cameroon.

What do I need to know before moving to Cameroon?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Cameroon, they said:

"1. Expats should research the cost of living in Cameroon before retiring there, as it can vary significantly depending on the city and lifestyle. 2. It is important to understand the local laws and regulations, as well as the cultural norms, before retiring in Cameroon. 3. Expats should also consider the availability of healthcare and medical facilities in the area they plan to retire in. 4. It is important to research the availability of banking and financial services, as well as the local currency exchange rate. 5. Expats should also consider the availability of transportation, as well as the safety of the area they plan to retire in. 6. It is important to research the availability of housing and rental options, as well as the cost of living in the area. 7. Expats should also consider the availability of leisure activities and entertainment options in the area they plan to retire in," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Cameroon.

What do people appreciate most about the culture in Cameroon?

"Expats in Cameroon appreciate the warm hospitality of the local people, the vibrant culture and the beautiful landscapes. They also enjoy the diverse cuisine, the vibrant music and dance, and the unique art and crafts. Additionally, expats appreciate the country's rich history and the opportunity to explore its many national parks and wildlife reserves," explained one person living in Cameroon.

What do people find most challenging about the culture in Cameroon?

"Expats in Cameroon often find the local culture to be quite different from what they are used to, which can be challenging. Language barriers can be a challenge, as French is the official language and many locals do not speak English. Additionally, the local customs and traditions can be difficult to understand and navigate. Expats may also find the local infrastructure to be lacking, with unreliable electricity and internet access. Finally, the cost of living in Cameroon can be high, making it difficult to adjust to the local economy," said one person in Cameroon.

What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Cameroon for a while?

"If you plan to stay in Cameroon for a while, you will need to obtain a valid visa from the Cameroonian Embassy or Consulate in your home country. You may also need to apply for a residence permit, which is issued by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization. Depending on the length of your stay, you may also need to register with the local police station," said one person in Cameroon.

We asked people in Cameroon if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. They wrote:

"It is important to be aware of cultural differences when visiting Cameroon. It is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions, and to dress modestly. Avoid making negative comments about the country or its people, and be aware that public displays of affection are generally frowned upon. It is also important to be aware of the local language and to be respectful when speaking to people. Additionally, it is important to be aware of religious customs and to avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics or religion," remarked one member in Cameroon.

What are healthcare services like in Cameroon?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Cameroon, they replied:

"Cameroon offers a variety of healthcare services, including primary care, hospital care, and specialized care. The public healthcare system in Cameroon is largely funded by the government and is available to all citizens. However, the quality of public healthcare is generally considered to be inadequate, with limited access to medical supplies and equipment, and a shortage of qualified medical personnel. Foreign residents may have access to the public healthcare system, but it is not always guaranteed. Expats in Cameroon may use the public healthcare system, but they may also opt to use private healthcare services, which are often of a higher quality," explained one digital nomad living in Cameroon.

What are the pros and cons of living in Cameroon?

"Expats and digital nomads in Cameroon appreciate the country's diverse culture, friendly people, and beautiful landscapes. They also enjoy the low cost of living, which allows them to stretch their money further. On the other hand, they may find the infrastructure and public services lacking, as well as the limited availability of certain goods and services. Additionally, the language barrier can be a challenge for those who don't speak French or the local languages," explained one expat living in Cameroon.
