These hospitals offer a wide range of services, from primary care to specialized treatments. In addition, many of these hospitals are affiliated with prestigious medical schools, providing access to the latest medical research and treatments. New York also has a large network of community health centers, providing quality healthcare to underserved populations," explained one expat living in New York.

Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in New York?
"Healthcare and health insurance in New York can be expensive. The cost of healthcare services, such as doctor visits, hospital stays, and prescription drugs, can be high. Health insurance premiums can also be costly, and the cost of coverage can vary depending on the type of plan and the provider. Additionally, New York has some of the highest deductibles and copayments in the country, which can add to the cost of healthcare," explained one person living in New York.
What are emergency services like in New York?

"Emergency services in New York are highly organized and efficient. In the event of an emergency, you can call 911 to request an ambulance. The operator will ask for your location and the nature of the emergency, and will dispatch an ambulance to your location as soon as possible. Emergency medical services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the New York City Fire Department provides fire and rescue services, and the New York Police Department provides law enforcement services," said one member in New York.
Will I need to travel to see a specialist?
"New York City is home to some of the most esteemed medical care in the world. The best selection of medical specialists can be found in Manhattan, Staten Island, and Brooklyn. In Manhattan, the Upper East Side houses many renowned specialists, and the Greenwich Village area is home to several world-renowned hospitals. Meanwhile, Staten Island boasts a number of highly respected specialists who offer a range of services. Lastly, Brooklyn is home to many prominent institutions and hospitals that offer a vast selection of specialized care," explained one expat living in New York.
Are common prescription medications available in New York?
"Yes, common prescription medications are available in New York. Pharmacies throughout the state carry a wide variety of medications, including those used to treat common conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. Many pharmacies also offer generic versions of brand-name medications, which can be more affordable for patients. Additionally, many pharmacies offer free delivery services for those who are unable to pick up their medications in person," explained one person living in New York.

The system is designed to provide quality care to all New Yorkers, regardless of their ability to pay. What have your experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system been like?

"My experiences with the local healthcare system in New York during the pandemic have been mostly positive. I have been able to access telehealth services with ease, and my doctor's office has been very accommodating in scheduling virtual appointments. I have also been able to get tested for COVID-19 quickly and easily, with results coming back within a few days. The healthcare system in New York has been very responsive to the needs of the community during this difficult time," said a member in New York.
