When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Louisiana, they replied:

"Louisiana offers a wide range of healthcare services, including primary care, specialty care, mental health services, and preventive care. The state is home to many excellent hospitals and medical facilities, including the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, and the Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. Other notable medical facilities in the state include the Baton Rouge General Medical Center, the University Medical Center in Lafayette, and the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. These hospitals and medical facilities provide comprehensive care for patients, including emergency services, diagnostic testing, and advanced treatments," explained one person living in Louisiana.

What is the quality of medical care in Louisiana like?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Louisiana, they replied:

"Louisiana offers a wide range of medical services to its residents. The state has a network of hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities that provide quality care to patients. Louisiana also has a number of specialized medical centers that offer specialized treatments for specific conditions. Additionally, the state has a number of medical schools and research centers that are dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and providing the latest treatments and technologies. Louisiana also has a number of health insurance plans available to its residents, ensuring that they have access to the medical care they need," said one foreigner in Louisiana.

Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in Louisiana?

"Healthcare and health insurance in Louisiana can be expensive. The cost of health insurance premiums in Louisiana is higher than the national average, and the cost of healthcare services can also be high. Additionally, Louisiana has some of the highest out-of-pocket costs for healthcare services in the country. These costs can be a burden for many people in the state, especially those who are uninsured or underinsured," said a member in Louisiana.

What are emergency services like in Louisiana?

When we asked about emergency services, members in Louisiana wrote:

"In Louisiana, emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To call for an ambulance, you can dial 911 or your local emergency services number. The operator will ask for your location and the nature of the emergency, and will then dispatch an ambulance to your location," commented a person living in Louisiana.

Will I need to travel to see a specialist?

"New Orleans is one of the best places to find medical specialists in Louisiana, with a wide selection of experts in many different fields. The city of Baton Rouge also offers a large array of specialists, including those in family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, and cardiology. Additionally, smaller cities like Lafayette and Shreveport offer a variety of specialized medical services, ranging from pediatric care to oncology," explained one digital nomad living in Louisiana.

Are common prescription medications available in Louisiana?

"Yes, common prescription medications are available in Louisiana. Most pharmacies in the state carry a wide variety of medications, including those used to treat common conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. Many pharmacies also offer generic versions of brand-name medications, which can be more affordable for patients. Additionally, many pharmacies offer special discounts and programs to help make medications more affordable for those who need them," said one member in Louisiana.

Do you have anything more to add about local medical facilities in Louisiana?

"Louisiana offers high quality medical care and medical facilities. The state is home to some of the top-ranked hospitals in the country, including Tulane University Hospital, East Jefferson General Hospital and Ochsner Baptist Medical Center. Louisiana also offers an extensive network of healthcare providers, including general practitioners, specialists, and urgent care facilities. Furthermore, medical professionals in Louisiana are committed to providing their patients with quality medical services and support. In addition, Louisiana is dedicated to developing innovative medical technologies and treatments to continuously improve the healthcare system," said one member in Louisiana.

As a foreigner living in Louisiana, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

"Yes, as a foreigner living in Louisiana, you will have access to public healthcare. Louisiana's public healthcare system is administered by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, and provides a range of services, including primary care, mental health services, and preventive care. The system is designed to provide quality healthcare to all residents, regardless of their ability to pay. The system is funded by both state and federal funds, and is available to all Louisiana residents, including foreign nationals," explained one digital nomad living in Louisiana.

What have your experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system been like?

"My experiences with the local healthcare system in Louisiana during the pandemic have been mostly positive. The healthcare providers in my area have been very responsive and accommodating to my needs, and I have been able to access the care I need in a timely manner. The healthcare system has also been proactive in providing resources and information to help me stay informed and safe during the pandemic. I am grateful for the care and support I have received from the local healthcare system during this difficult time," remarked one member in Louisiana.
