"Grenada offers a range of healthcare services, including primary care, specialist care, and hospital services. The public healthcare system is managed by the Ministry of Health and is funded by the government. The quality of public healthcare is generally good, with a range of services available. Foreign residents have access to the public healthcare system, although they may need to pay for some services. Expats in Grenada can use the public healthcare system, although they may need to pay for some services. "Grenada has a well-developed healthcare system, with a range of medical services available to its citizens. The country has a number of public and private hospitals, clinics, and health centers, providing a variety of medical services including general practice, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and emergency care. The country also has a number of specialized medical centers, such as the St. George's University School of Medicine, which offers advanced medical training and research. Additionally, Grenada has a number of pharmacies and health stores, providing access to a range of medications and health products," wrote one digital nomad living in Grenada.

Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in Grenada?

"Healthcare and health insurance in Grenada can be expensive, depending on the type of coverage and services needed. Private health insurance is available, but it can be costly and may not cover all medical expenses. Public healthcare is available, but it is limited and may not provide the same level of care as private healthcare. Additionally, many medical services and treatments may not be covered by public healthcare, and patients may need to pay out of pocket for these services," explained one digital nomad living in Grenada.

What are emergency services like in Grenada?

When we asked about emergency services, members in Grenada wrote:

"Emergency services in Grenada are generally reliable and efficient. In the event of an emergency, the best way to call for an ambulance is to dial 911. This will connect you to the local emergency services, who will be able to dispatch an ambulance to your location," explained one expat living in Grenada.

Will I need to travel to see a specialist?

"Grenada's capital city, St. George's, is home to a wide variety of medical specialists, including general practitioners, surgeons, and specialists in fields such as cardiology, neurology, and oncology. The nearby town of Gouyave also has a number of medical specialists, including dentists, optometrists, and gynecologists. The town of Sauteurs is home to a number of specialists in fields such as orthopedics, dermatology, and ophthalmology. Additionally, the town of Grenville has a number of specialists in fields such as pediatrics, endocrinology, and gastroenterology," explained one expat living in Grenada.

Are common prescription medications available in Grenada?

"Yes, common prescription medications are available in Grenada. Most pharmacies in Grenada carry a wide range of medications, including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and pain relievers. Many of these medications are available over the counter, while others require a prescription from a doctor. In addition, some pharmacies may also offer specialty medications, such as those used to treat cancer or HIV/AIDS," commented a person living in Grenada.

Do you have anything more to add about local medical facilities in Grenada?

"Grenada has a well-developed healthcare system, with a range of medical facilities and services available. The country has a number of public and private hospitals, clinics, and medical centers, providing quality medical care to both locals and visitors. The country also has a number of highly trained medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and specialists, who are able to provide a range of medical services. In addition, Grenada has a number of pharmacies and medical supply stores, providing access to a range of medications and medical supplies," said a member in Grenada.

As a foreigner living in Grenada, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

"Yes, as a foreigner living in Grenada, you will have access to public healthcare. The public healthcare system in Grenada is generally considered to be of good quality, with a wide range of services available. The main public hospital is the St. George's University Hospital, which offers a range of services including emergency care, general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. Additionally, there are several smaller public health centers located throughout the country, which provide basic medical services such as vaccinations and primary care," said one member in Grenada.

What have your experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system been like?

"The pandemic has had a significant impact on the healthcare system in Grenada. The government has implemented a number of measures to protect the health and safety of citizens, including the closure of the country's borders, the suspension of non-essential services, and the introduction of a curfew. Healthcare workers have been working tirelessly to provide care to those in need, and the government has provided additional resources to support them. Despite the challenges, the healthcare system in Grenada has been able to provide quality care to those in need," said one digital nomad in Grenada.
