What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Bermuda?

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Bermuda is the high cost of living. Bermuda is an expensive place to live, and the cost of housing, food, and other necessities can be prohibitively expensive for retirees on a fixed income. Additionally, Bermuda has a high tax rate, which can make it difficult for retirees to make ends meet. Furthermore, Bermuda is a small island with limited resources, so it can be difficult to find the services and amenities that retirees may need. Finally, Bermuda is a long way from most other countries, so it can be difficult to stay connected with family and friends who are far away," said one retiree in living in Bermuda.

What do I need to know before retiring in Bermuda?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Bermuda, they said:

"Before retiring in Bermuda, expats should be aware of the cost of living, which is higher than in many other countries. They should also research the local housing market and the availability of rental properties. Additionally, expats should familiarize themselves with the local laws and regulations, as well as the tax system. It is also important to consider the climate and the island's hurricane season. Finally, expats should research the local healthcare system and the availability of medical services," explained a retiree in Bermuda.

"Do not come. On paper the salary looks good but a loaf of bread is US $3 and a half decent place to live is US$ 3000 a month. You have to be on a good package of 100K or more plus apartment thrown in to be OP here," explained one retiree living in Hamilton.

What type of recreational activities are there in Bermuda?

"Residents of Bermuda enjoy a variety of recreational facilities, including beaches, golf courses, tennis courts, and parks. There are also a number of marinas and boat clubs, as well as a variety of water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing. For those looking for a more relaxed experience, there are plenty of restaurants, pubs, and cafes to explore. Additionally, there are a number of cultural attractions, such as museums, galleries, and historic sites," remarked one retiree in Bermuda.

Where will I buy groceries and do other shopping in Bermuda?

"People living in Bermuda typically buy groceries and do other shopping at supermarkets, convenience stores, and specialty stores. There are also a variety of local markets and farmers markets where people can purchase fresh produce and other items. Additionally, many people shop online for groceries and other items," said one person who retired in Bermuda.
