What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Georgia?

"One of the biggest challenges of retiring in Georgia is the cost of living. Georgia is one of the most expensive states for retirement, with the average monthly expenses for retirees being around $3,400. Taxes are also high in Georgia, including sales and income taxes, which can make it harder to stretch retirement savings. The climate can also be a challenge, with Georgia having hot and humid summers, and some retirees may find it difficult to adjust. Finally, Georgia has a limited transportation system, meaning it can be difficult to get around without a car," explained a retiree in Georgia Rep.

What do I need to know before retiring in Georgia?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Georgia, they said:

"Before retiring in Georgia, expats should be aware of the cost of living, taxes, healthcare, and retirement solutions in the country. While Georgia offers a low cost of living, it is important to research the associated taxes and fees to understand the full financial implications. Regarding healthcare, Georgia has a national universal healthcare system with good coverage. However, expats should take precaution and arrange international health insurance to cover any medical costs that are not already included in the national system. Expats should also research private retirement solutions, such as a pension or annuity to supplement public pensions, to ensure they have the financial support they need," said one retiree in living in Georgia Rep.
