What do I need to know when buying property in Washington?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Washington, they said:

"When buying property in Washington, it is important to understand the state's real estate laws and regulations. It is also important to research the local market and understand the current trends in the area. It is also important to understand the taxes and fees associated with purchasing property in Washington, as well as any zoning or building restrictions that may apply. Additionally, it is important to work with a qualified real estate agent or attorney to ensure that all paperwork is properly completed and that all legal requirements are met. Finally, it is important to obtain a home inspection to ensure that the property is in good condition before making a purchase," wrote one expat who made the move to Washington.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Washington?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Washington, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Washington. Non-U.S. citizens are able to purchase real estate in Washington just like any other U.S. citizen. However, they may need to obtain a valid visa in order to purchase property in the state. Additionally, they may need to obtain a tax identification number from the Internal Revenue Service in order to purchase property," explained one foreigner living in Washington.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Washington what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"Rental properties in Washington typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, dishwasher, and washer and dryer. Other appliances such as microwaves, garbage disposals, and air conditioners may also be included depending on the property," said one in Washington.

"Newcomers to Washington can search for homes online by using real estate websites such as Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor.com. They can also contact local real estate agents to help them find the perfect home. Additionally, newcomers can look for homes in newspapers and magazines, or attend open houses to get a better feel for the area," explained one foreigner living in Washington.
