Additionally, you can search for rental listings on classifieds websites such as Craigslist and OLX. You can also contact local real estate agents to help you find a place to live in Senegal. Finally, you can ask friends and family who live in Senegal for recommendations," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Senegal.

If you have not spent a lot of time in Senegal, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"When deciding whether to buy or rent a home in Senegal, it is important to consider the cost of living, the availability of housing, and the local economy. Buying a home in Senegal can be a great investment, as property values tend to appreciate over time. However, it is important to consider the cost of purchasing a home, including the cost of a down payment, closing costs, and any necessary repairs or renovations. Renting a home in Senegal can be a more affordable option, as it does not require a large upfront investment. Additionally, renting can provide more flexibility, as it allows you to move more easily if your circumstances change. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Senegal should be based on your individual needs and financial situation," said one expat who made the move to Senegal.

What do I need to know when buying property in Senegal?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Senegal, they said:

"1. It is important to research the local laws and regulations regarding property ownership in Senegal before making any purchase. 2. It is advisable to hire a local lawyer to assist with the purchase process and to ensure that all legal requirements are met. 3. It is important to obtain a title deed for the property, which will provide proof of ownership. 4. It is important to be aware of the local taxes and fees associated with purchasing property in Senegal. 5. It is important to be aware of the local customs and traditions when purchasing property in Senegal. 6. It is important to be aware of the local infrastructure and services available in the area where the property is located. 7. It is important to be aware of the local market conditions and prices when purchasing property in Senegal," said one person in Senegal.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Senegal?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Senegal, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Senegal. The Senegalese government has established a legal framework that allows foreign nationals to purchase and own real estate in the country. Foreigners can purchase property in their own name, or through a company, and they are also allowed to lease property. However, there are certain restrictions in place, such as the requirement that the property must be used for a specific purpose, and that the foreign owner must obtain a permit from the Ministry of Interior. Additionally, foreign nationals are not allowed to own land in certain areas, such as near the coast or in certain protected areas," said one person in Senegal.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Senegal what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Senegal, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, and washing machine. Other common appliances may include a microwave, air conditioner, and water heater. Depending on the property, some landlords may also provide additional appliances such as a dishwasher, clothes dryer, or television," said one in Senegal.
