Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Somalia should be based on your individual needs and preferences," remarked one member in Somalia.

It is important to ensure that the property is free from any liens or encumbrances before making a purchase. 5. It is also important to be aware of the local customs and traditions when buying property in Somalia. 6. It is advisable to obtain a title deed for the property, which will provide proof of ownership. 7. It is important to be aware of the taxation laws in Somalia, as this may affect the cost of the property. 8. It is also important to be aware of the local infrastructure and services available in the area where you are looking to buy property," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Somalia.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Somalia?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Somalia, they said...

"Foreigners are not allowed to own property in Somalia. The Somali Constitution does not recognize foreign ownership of land or property. The only way for a foreigner to own property in Somalia is to purchase it through a Somali citizen or company. This is done through a lease agreement, which allows the foreign investor to use the property for a certain period of time. The lease agreement must be approved by the Somali government before it can be enforced," explained one foreigner living in Somalia.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Somalia what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Somalia, rental properties typically include basic kitchen appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, and oven. Other common appliances include a washing machine, air conditioner, and water heater. Depending on the property, some landlords may also provide additional appliances such as a dishwasher, microwave, and television," said one foreigner living in Somalia.
