Expats should also research the local real estate market to get an idea of the types of properties available and their prices. Homes in Egypt typically include amenities such as air conditioning, balconies, and terraces. Many homes also have private gardens and swimming pools. Foreigners are allowed to own property in Egypt, but there are some restrictions. Foreigners are not allowed to own land in certain areas, such as military zones or areas near the border. Additionally, foreigners are not allowed to own more than two properties in Egypt.

Additionally, you can search for rental listings on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. You can also contact local real estate agents who specialize in rental properties in Egypt. Additionally, you can ask friends and family who live in Egypt for recommendations. Finally, you can look for rental listings in local newspapers and magazines," remarked one member in Egypt.

If you are thinking about moving to Egypt, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"The cost of housing in Egypt varies depending on the location and type of property. Generally, housing in Egypt is relatively affordable compared to other countries, with prices ranging from low-cost apartments to luxury villas. On average, a one-bedroom apartment in a city center can cost around $200 to $400 per month, while a three-bedroom apartment in a suburban area can cost around $400 to $800 per month," explained one person living in Egypt.

Should I buy or rent a home in Egypt?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Egypt, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in Egypt can be a great investment, as the country has a strong economy and real estate market. However, it is important to consider the cost of living in Egypt, as well as the availability of financing options, before making a decision. Renting a home in Egypt can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to a long-term purchase, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more affordable in the short-term. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Egypt should be based on individual needs and preferences," explained one expat living in Egypt.

What do I need to know when buying property in Egypt?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Egypt, they said:

"1. It is important to research the local market and understand the current trends in the area before making a purchase. 2. It is important to hire a reputable lawyer to help with the legal aspects of the purchase. 3. It is important to understand the tax implications of buying property in Egypt. 4. It is important to understand the local laws and regulations regarding property ownership. 5. It is important to understand the process of obtaining a mortgage in Egypt. 6. It is important to understand the process of transferring ownership of the property. 7. It is important to understand the process of registering the property with the local authorities. 8. It is important to understand the process of obtaining a residence permit in Egypt. 9. It is important to understand the process of obtaining a title deed for the property. 10. It is important to understand the process of obtaining a building permit in Egypt," explained one expat in Egypt.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Egypt?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Egypt, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Egypt. According to the Egyptian Investment Law, foreign investors are allowed to own property in Egypt, provided they obtain the necessary permits from the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation. Foreigners are also allowed to lease property in Egypt for up to 99 years. However, they are not allowed to own land in certain areas, such as military zones, archaeological sites, and areas designated for public use," explained one foreigner living in Egypt.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Egypt what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Egypt, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, washing machine, and air conditioning unit. Other common appliances may include a microwave, dishwasher, and water heater. Furniture may also be included in some rental properties," explained one person living in Egypt.
