What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Kuwait?
"Expat homes and apartments in Kuwait tend to be modern and luxurious, with many featuring high-end amenities such as swimming pools, gyms, and private gardens. Expats can also expect to find spacious living areas, fully-equipped kitchens, and plenty of natural light. Many expat homes and apartments also come with a range of security features, such as CCTV cameras and gated entrances, to ensure the safety of their occupants," remarked one member in Kuwait.
"Apartments, mostly. From high rises to condo-like flats. Only Kuwaitis are allowed to own property, so we're all renters," explained one expat living in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

What is the average cost of housing in Kuwait?
If you are thinking about moving to Kuwait, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:
"MUCH lower. About $500 or so a month for a good two bedroom apartment. Again, most companies provide housing as part of the contract. It's rare to find an American paying for their housing," said one expat in Kuwait City.
"The cost of housing in Kuwait varies depending on the location and type of property. Generally, the cost of renting an apartment in Kuwait is quite high, with prices ranging from around $1,000 to $2,500 per month. Buying a property in Kuwait is also expensive, with prices ranging from around $200,000 to over $1 million," remarked one member in Kuwait.
Should I buy or rent a home in Kuwait?
If you have not spent a lot of time in Kuwait, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:
"Buying a home in Kuwait is a great investment, as the country has a strong economy and real estate market. However, it is important to consider the cost of living in Kuwait, as well as the availability of rental properties. Renting a home in Kuwait can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to a long-term purchase, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more cost-effective in the short-term. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Kuwait should be based on individual needs and preferences," explained one expat living in Kuwait.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Kuwait?
When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Kuwait, they said...
"Foreigners are not allowed to own property in Kuwait. However, they are allowed to lease property for a period of up to 99 years. This is done through a Kuwaiti sponsor, who is responsible for the property and must be present at all times when the property is being used. The sponsor is also responsible for any taxes or fees associated with the property," explained one foreigner living in Kuwait.
What appliances are typically included in a rental?
We asked foreigners in Kuwait what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:
"In Kuwait, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, washing machine, and air conditioning unit. Some properties may also include a dishwasher, microwave, and other small appliances. Furniture is usually not included in the rental, but can be negotiated with the landlord," said one foreigner living in Kuwait.
