You can also contact local real estate agents who specialize in rental properties in Kyrgyzstan. Finally, you can ask friends and family who live in Kyrgyzstan for recommendations," said one expat who made the move to Kyrgyzstan.

"Expat homes and apartments in Kyrgyzstan tend to be modern and comfortable, with many featuring modern amenities such as air conditioning, internet access, and cable television. Most expat homes and apartments are located in the larger cities, such as Bishkek, and are often in close proximity to international schools, restaurants, and other amenities. Expat homes and apartments typically feature spacious living areas, multiple bedrooms, and balconies or terraces with views of the surrounding mountains," said one person in Kyrgyzstan.

"The cost of housing in Kyrgyzstan varies depending on the location and type of accommodation. Generally, renting an apartment in a city center can be quite expensive, while renting a house in a rural area can be much more affordable. Prices for accommodation also depend on the quality of the property and the amenities offered," said one expat who made the move to Kyrgyzstan.

Should I buy or rent a home in Kyrgyzstan?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Kyrgyzstan, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in Kyrgyzstan can be a great investment, as the country is known for its low cost of living and attractive real estate prices. However, it is important to consider the long-term implications of buying a home in Kyrgyzstan, such as the cost of maintenance and upkeep, as well as the potential for appreciation or depreciation in the value of the property. Renting a home in Kyrgyzstan can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to a long-term purchase, as it allows for more flexibility and the ability to move quickly if needed. Additionally, renting can be a great way to get to know the area and decide if it is the right place to settle down," explained one expat living in Kyrgyzstan.

What do I need to know when buying property in Kyrgyzstan?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Kyrgyzstan, they said:

"1. It is important to research the local laws and regulations regarding property ownership in Kyrgyzstan before making any purchase. 2. It is also important to ensure that the property is legally registered and that all necessary documents are in order. 3. It is advisable to seek professional legal advice when purchasing property in Kyrgyzstan. 4. It is important to be aware of any potential risks associated with buying property in Kyrgyzstan, such as political instability or corruption. 5. It is also important to be aware of any taxes or fees that may be applicable to the purchase of property in Kyrgyzstan. 6. It is advisable to obtain a survey of the property before making any purchase. 7. It is important to be aware of any restrictions or limitations that may be placed on the use of the property. 8. It is also important to be aware of any potential environmental issues that may be associated with the property," explained one person living in Kyrgyzstan.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Kyrgyzstan?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Kyrgyzstan, they said...

"Foreigners are allowed to own property in Kyrgyzstan, but there are certain restrictions. Foreigners are not allowed to own land, but they can own buildings and other types of real estate. Foreigners must obtain a permit from the Kyrgyz government in order to purchase property, and the permit must be renewed every five years. Additionally, foreign ownership of property is limited to a maximum of 49% of the total value of the property," said one foreigner living in Kyrgyzstan.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Kyrgyzstan what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Kyrgyzstan, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Depending on the property, other appliances such as a dishwasher, microwave, and air conditioner may also be included," said one foreigner living in Kyrgyzstan.
