When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Taipei, they said:

"Taipei is a vibrant and exciting city with a lot to offer expats. Before moving to Taipei, it is important to research the cost of living, as it can be quite expensive. It is also important to familiarize yourself with the local culture and customs, as well as the language. Additionally, it is important to research the visa requirements for expats, as well as the job market. Finally, it is important to find a reliable and trustworthy real estate agent to help you find a suitable place to live," remarked one expat who made the move to Taipei.

How do I find a place to live in Taipei?

We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"One of the best ways to find a place to live in Taipei is to use online resources such as Airbnb, Expedia, or other rental websites. You can also search for local real estate agents who specialize in Taipei rentals. Additionally, you can look for classified ads in local newspapers or on bulletin boards in the city. Finally, you can ask friends or family who live in Taipei for recommendations," remarked one expat in Taipei, Taiwan.

What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Taipei?

"Expat homes and apartments in Taipei are typically modern and well-equipped. Most apartments come with air conditioning, a washing machine, and a refrigerator. Many also have balconies with views of the city skyline. Expat homes and apartments are usually located in the city center, close to public transportation, restaurants, and shopping centers. They are also often located in residential neighborhoods, providing a more peaceful and private living environment," replied a member in Taipei.

What is the average cost of housing in Taipei?

If you are thinking about moving to Taipei, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"The cost of housing in Taipei can vary greatly depending on the size and location of the property. Generally, the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is around NT$30,000 (US$1,000) per month, while a three-bedroom apartment in the suburbs can cost around NT$20,000 (US$650) per month," remarked one expat in Taipei, Taiwan.

Should I buy or rent a home in Taipei?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Taipei, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"When deciding whether to buy or rent a home in Taipei, it is important to consider your budget, lifestyle, and long-term plans. Buying a home in Taipei can be a great investment, as the city is known for its strong real estate market. However, it is important to factor in the cost of a down payment, closing costs, and other associated fees. Renting a home in Taipei can be a more affordable option, and it can also provide more flexibility if you are not sure how long you will be living in the city. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Taipei should be based on your individual needs and preferences," said one expat in Taipei.

What should I pack when moving to Taipei?

We asked people living in Taipei to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"When moving to Taipei, it is important to pack items that will help you adjust to the climate and culture. Pack clothing that is suitable for the warm and humid climate, such as light, breathable fabrics. Bring a few items of clothing that can be layered, as temperatures can drop in the evenings. It is also important to bring items that will help you adjust to the culture, such as a phrasebook or dictionary to help you learn the language. Additionally, bring items that will help you feel at home, such as photos of family and friends, and items that remind you of home," said one expat in Taipei.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Taipei?

We asked people in Taipei if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:

"It is important to be mindful of cultural norms when visiting Taipei. It is considered rude to point with your index finger, so it is best to gesture with your whole hand. It is also important to be respectful of religious sites and to dress modestly when visiting temples. Additionally, it is important to take off your shoes when entering someone's home. Finally, it is important to be aware of the local customs when it comes to dining etiquette, such as not sticking your chopsticks upright in your food," replied a member in Taipei.

In Taipei, patients can expect to receive care from well-trained medical professionals, many of whom have studied or trained abroad. The city's hospitals are equipped with modern facilities and advanced medical technology, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.
