When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Sharjah, they said:

What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Sharjah?

"Expat homes and apartments in Sharjah are typically modern and spacious, with large windows and balconies that offer stunning views of the city. Many of the apartments come with amenities such as air conditioning, swimming pools, gyms, and saunas. The apartments are usually located in secure, gated communities with 24-hour security, making them a safe and comfortable place to live. The city also offers a wide range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options, making it an ideal place for expats to live," replied a member in Sharjah.

What is the average cost of housing in Sharjah?

However, it is important to factor in the cost of maintenance and repairs, as well as the cost of a down payment. Renting a home in Sharjah can be a more affordable option, and it can provide more flexibility if you are not sure how long you will be living in the area. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Sharjah should be based on your individual needs and preferences," said one expat who made the move to Sharjah.

What should I pack when moving to Sharjah?

We asked people living in Sharjah to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"When moving to Sharjah, it is important to pack items that will help you adjust to the climate and culture. Pack light, breathable clothing that will keep you cool in the hot, humid climate. Bring a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun. Bring a scarf or shawl to cover your head and shoulders when visiting religious sites. Pack comfortable shoes for walking and exploring the city. Bring a few items of your own culture to remind you of home. Don't forget to bring your passport and other important documents. Finally, make sure to bring a good supply of sunscreen and insect repellent," said one expat in Sharjah.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Sharjah?
