It's also in the hurricane belt, so expats should be prepared for the possibility of severe weather, particularly between June and November. Public transportation in Bermuda is reliable and efficient, with a network of buses and ferries that cover the entire island. On the other hand, if you prefer flexibility, are unsure about your long-term plans, or cannot afford the costs associated with homeownership, renting may be a more suitable option. Additionally, it is essential to research the local real estate market and consult with a real estate professional to make an informed decision," remarked one expat who made the move to Fairylands.
What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Fairylands?
We asked people in Fairylands if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:
"In Fairylands, it's important to respect the local customs and traditions. Avoid wearing revealing clothing, especially in religious or formal settings, as it is considered disrespectful. It's also considered impolite to refuse an invitation to someone's home. If you're invited, it's customary to bring a small gift for the host. Avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics and religion, unless the other person initiates the conversation. Bermudians are generally polite and reserved, so try to avoid loud or boisterous behavior. It's also important to respect the environment. Don't litter or disturb wildlife, and always follow local guidelines when visiting natural areas. Tipping is customary in Bermuda, so be sure to tip appropriately in restaurants, taxis, and other service industries. Finally, remember that Bermudians drive on the left side of the road. If you're not used to this, it can be easy to forget and accidentally walk or drive on the wrong side, which can be dangerous," said one expat who made the move to Fairylands.
