Expats should also be aware that the cost of living in Savusavu is relatively low, but the availability of certain goods and services may be limited. Additionally, the climate is tropical, with hot and humid weather year-round. Finally, expats should be aware that the local culture is quite different from what they may be used to, and it is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions," explained one expat living in Savusavu, Fiji.

How do I find a place to live in Savusavu?

"One option for finding a place to live in Savusavu is to contact a local real estate agent. They will be able to provide you with information about available properties in the area, as well as advice on the best areas to live in. Many of the homes and apartments have balconies or terraces that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The interiors are often decorated with bright colors and tropical accents, and the furniture is usually comfortable and inviting. What should I pack when moving to Savusavu?

We asked people living in Savusavu to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"When moving to Savusavu, it is important to pack items that will help you adjust to the tropical climate. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing such as shorts, t-shirts, and sundresses. Bring a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun. Pack comfortable shoes for walking and exploring the area. Bring a swimsuit and beach towel for swimming and relaxing on the beach. Don't forget to bring insect repellent and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun and bugs. Additionally, it is important to bring any necessary medications and toiletries. Finally, make sure to bring a camera to capture all of your memories in Savusavu," said one expat in Savusavu.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Savusavu?

We asked people in Savusavu if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:

"We have become infamous, the majority of people who live here know our story. We can only hope that by telling our story, that we can save others from being cheated by these two crooks also," replied a member in Savusavu.

"It is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions when visiting Savusavu. It is considered rude to point with your finger, so it is best to use an open hand when gesturing. It is also important to dress modestly, as revealing clothing is considered inappropriate. Additionally, it is important to be aware of the local taboos and to avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics or religion. Finally, it is important to be respectful of the local environment and to avoid littering or damaging the natural environment," commented one expat who made the move to Savusavu.

The town has a public hospital, the Savusavu Sub-Divisional Hospital, which provides basic medical care, including emergency services, general medicine, and maternity care. There are also a few private clinics and pharmacies in the area, offering additional healthcare options. While the healthcare facilities in Savusavu may not be as advanced as those in larger cities, they are generally well-equipped to handle common health issues and minor emergencies. For more specialized care or serious medical conditions, patients may need to travel to larger hospitals in cities like Suva or Nadi," wrote one expat living in Savusavu.

What are medical services in Savusavu like?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Savusavu, they replied:

"Medical services in Savusavu, are relatively limited compared to larger cities or more developed countries. The town has a small government-run hospital, Savusavu Subdivisional Hospital, which provides basic healthcare services, including emergency care, outpatient consultations, and maternity services. However, the hospital may not be equipped to handle more complex medical procedures or specialized treatments. For more advanced medical care, patients may need to travel to the larger hospitals in Labasa or Suva. Additionally, there are a few private clinics and pharmacies in Savusavu, offering general medical consultations and medications. It is essential for visitors to have comprehensive travel insurance that includes medical evacuation, as medical facilities in Savusavu may not meet the standards of those in more developed countries," remarked one expat in Savusavu.
