We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"Finding a place to live in Constanta can be done by searching through real estate listings, classified ads and asking for recommendations from friends or acquaintances. It is also possible to contact property management companies, who can help in finding accommodation, and real estate agents who specialize in the city. Constanta has a large selection of apartments and houses for rent, with rent prices ranging from reasonable to expensive, depending on location, condition, and size. Prior to signing a lease, it is always important to check the area to make sure it is safe, close to public transportation and that all the amenities needed are nearby," said one expat who made the move to Constanta.

"A typical expat home or apartment in Constanta is usually spacious and modern with large balconies, terraces, or patios. Rooms may have high ceilings and some may include fireplaces. Apartments often come with air conditioning, modern kitchens, and most of them are within walking distance to shops, restaurants, parks, and other amenities. There is also a variety of furnished and unfurnished apartments available in the city. Additionally, many of these apartments provide good access to public transportation," said one expat who made the move to Constanta.

What is the average cost of housing in Constanta?

"The cost of housing in Constanta varies greatly depending on location, size, age, and amenities. Should I buy or rent a home in Constanta?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Constanta, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Whether you should buy or rent a home in Constanta depends on your personal financial situation and goals. Buying a home in Constanta gives you a long-term asset that may appreciate in value, but it also requires a large upfront investment and large monthly mortgage payments. Renting a home or apartment in Constanta may be cheaper in the short term and requires a smaller upfront payment, but it also doesn't give you the asset appreciation of owning a home. Consider carefully what makes the most sense financially before making a decision," said one expat in Constanta.

What should I pack when moving to Constanta?

We asked people living in Constanta to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"For clothing, pack items such as long-sleeved shirts and trousers, as well as warm sweaters and coats. For footwear, a good pair of comfortable shoes and boots is essential. Consider packing an umbrella and raincoat as well. When it comes to entertainment, electronics such as a laptop or tablet, books, and other items might be desirable. For personal items, toiletries, medication, and other essentials should be packed. Don't forget to bring any important documents such as passports and identification cards. Depending on your living arrangements and the time of the year, you may need to bring items for domestic use, including kitchenware and bed linens," said one expat who made the move to Constanta.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Constanta?

We asked people in Constanta if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:

"When traveling in Constanta, it is important to be mindful of cultural differences. For example, it is considered rude to talk loudly or aggravate crowds. Dress modestly, as provocative clothing may be socially unacceptable. Furthermore, respect religious traditions, do not point with your finger, and refrain from engaging in public displays of affection. Avoid giving gifts in even numbers, as this is thought to bring bad luck. Other important rules to follow include not bringing up negative topics of discussion, such as politics. Additionally, it is important to be respectful when addressing elders in Romanian culture," remarked one expat in Constanta, Romania.

Medical professionals in Constanta are typically well-trained, but language barriers may be an issue as not all healthcare providers speak English fluently.
