The best neighborhood to live in Taipei is Xinyi District, which is known for its modern skyscrapers, shopping malls, and nightlife. The approximate population of Taipei is 2.7 million people. The weather in Taipei, Taiwan is generally mild and humid, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the mid-80s Fahrenheit (10-30 Celsius). The monthly cost of living for a digital nomad in Taipei is around $1,500 USD, depending on lifestyle and accommodation. The cost of renting a centrally located, one-bedroom apartment with high-speed internet access in Taipei is around $1,000 USD per month.

When we asked people living in Taipei about club and activities where newcomers can meet others, they responded:

"Expats in Taipei can join a variety of clubs and activities, such as language exchange groups, sports teams, and cultural activities. Expats can also meet people by attending events such as art exhibitions, music concerts, and festivals. Additionally, many expats find it helpful to join online forums and social media groups related to their interests, as well as attending meetups and networking events. Finally, expats can also meet people by simply exploring the city and talking to locals," explained one person living in Taipei, Taiwan.

What is life like in Taipei?

When we asked people living in Taipei what life is like and how people spend their time, they said:

"Taipei is an attractive destination for expats and digital nomads due to its vibrant culture, excellent public transportation, and low cost of living. The city is home to a diverse range of people from all over the world, making it easy to make friends and find a community. Expats and digital nomads can enjoy the city's many attractions, from its bustling night markets to its stunning temples and parks. The city also offers a wide range of activities, from hiking in the mountains to exploring the city's many museums and galleries. Taipei is a great place to live for those looking for an exciting and affordable lifestyle," explained one person living in Taipei, Taiwan.

Where should I live in Taipei?

We asked digital nomads and expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"One of the best ways to find a place to live in Taipei is to use online resources such as Airbnb, Expedia, or other rental websites. You can also search for local real estate agents who specialize in Taipei rentals. Additionally, you can look for classified ads in local newspapers or on bulletin boards in the city. Finally, you can ask friends or family who live in Taipei for recommendations," said one person in Taipei.

What do I need to know before moving to Taipei?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Taipei, they said:

"Before retiring in Taipei, expats should familiarize themselves with the local language, Mandarin Chinese. It is also important to research the cost of living in Taipei, as it is generally more expensive than other parts of Taiwan. Additionally, expats should research the healthcare system in Taiwan, as it is different from other countries. It is also important to research the visa requirements for expats, as they may need to obtain a residence permit in order to stay in Taiwan for an extended period of time. Finally, expats should research the cultural norms and customs of Taiwan, as they may be different from their home country," said one expat who made the move to Taipei.

What do people appreciate most about the culture in Taipei?

"Expats in Taipei appreciate the city's vibrant culture, which is a mix of traditional Chinese and modern influences. They also enjoy the friendly and welcoming attitude of the locals, who are always willing to help out newcomers. The city's excellent public transportation system makes it easy to get around, and the variety of delicious local cuisine is a major draw for many expats. Taipei is also known for its lively nightlife, with plenty of bars, clubs, and restaurants to explore. Finally, the city's stunning natural beauty, from its lush mountains to its stunning coastline, is a major attraction for many expats," said one expat who made the move to Taipei.

What do people find most challenging about the culture in Taipei?

"One of the most challenging aspects of the local culture for expats in Taipei is the language barrier. Many locals speak Mandarin Chinese, which can be difficult for expats to understand. Additionally, the local customs and etiquette can be difficult to navigate for those who are unfamiliar with them. For example, it is considered rude to point with one finger, and it is important to show respect to elders. Furthermore, the Taiwanese are known for their hospitality, and it is important to be polite and courteous when interacting with them. Finally, the local cuisine can be quite different from what expats are used to, and it can take some time to get used to the flavors and ingredients," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Taipei.

What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Taipei for a while?

"If you plan to stay in Taipei for a while, you will need to apply for a residence visa. Depending on the length of your stay, you may need to apply for a Resident Visa, Alien Resident Certificate, or a Re-entry Permit. You will also need to provide documents such as a valid passport, proof of financial stability, and a completed application form," explained one person living in Taipei, Taiwan.

What cultural blunders should I try to avoid making in Taipei?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Taipei, they replied:

"Healthcare services in Taipei, are known for their high quality, accessibility, and affordability. The city boasts numerous public and private hospitals, clinics, and medical centers that offer a wide range of services, from primary care to specialized treatments. The Taiwanese healthcare system is built on the National Health Insurance (NHI) program, which covers almost the entire population and provides comprehensive medical coverage, including outpatient care, inpatient care, dental care, and traditional Chinese medicine. In Taipei, patients can expect to receive care from well-trained medical professionals, many of whom have studied or trained abroad. The city's hospitals are equipped with modern facilities and advanced medical technology, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. In addition to local residents, Taipei's healthcare system also caters to medical tourists, who are attracted by the high-quality care and relatively low costs. One notable aspect of healthcare in Taipei is the integration of Western medicine with traditional Chinese medicine, which is widely practiced and respected in Taiwan.
