What are healthcare services like in The Cayes?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in The Cayes, they replied:

"Healthcare services in The Cayes, are relatively limited due to the region's remote location and small population. The primary healthcare facility in the area is the Caye Caulker Health Center, which provides basic medical services, such as general consultations, minor surgeries, and emergency care. However, for more specialized treatments or advanced medical procedures, patients often need to travel to the mainland, where larger hospitals and clinics are available in cities like Belize City and Belmopan. Additionally, there are a few private clinics and pharmacies in The Cayes that offer primary care services and medications. It is also worth noting that healthcare services in the region may not be up to the standards of more developed countries, and medical professionals may face challenges such as limited resources and outdated equipment. Visitors to The Cayes are advised to have travel insurance and be prepared to seek medical care on the mainland or even outside of Belize in case of serious illness or injury," said a member in The Cayes.
