What do people find most challenging about the culture in Warwick?

"Expats in Warwick often find the high cost of living to be a significant challenge, as the island is one of the most expensive places to live in the world. The slow pace of life can also be a culture shock for those accustomed to a faster, more hectic lifestyle. Additionally, the island's isolation can be difficult for some, as it can be expensive and time-consuming to travel to other countries. The local dialect and accents can also be challenging to understand for newcomers. Lastly, while Bermudians are generally friendly and welcoming, it can take time for expats to fully integrate into the local community and social circles," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Warwick.

What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Warwick for a while?

"If you are planning to stay in Warwick for an extended period, you will need to apply for a visa or residency permit. The type of visa or permit you need depends on the purpose and duration of your stay. If you are visiting for tourism, business, or to visit family or friends, you may need a tourist visa. This is typically valid for up to 90 days. If you plan to work in Bermuda, you will need a work permit. This must be applied for by your employer in Bermuda. If you intend to study in Bermuda, you will need a student visa. This must be applied for by the educational institution you will be attending. If you are planning to retire in Bermuda, you will need a residential certificate. This is available to individuals who are financially independent and have a substantial annual income. In addition to these visas and permits, you will also need a valid passport. Please note that visa requirements can change, so it's important to check the latest information from the Bermuda Department of Immigration or your local embassy or consulate," remarked one member in Warwick.

What cultural blunders should I try to avoid making in Warwick?

We asked people in Warwick if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. They wrote:

"In Warwick, it's important to respect the local customs and traditions. Dress modestly when not on the beach, as Bermudians tend to dress more formally than in other beach destinations. Avoid wearing beachwear in town or in restaurants. It's considered rude to take photographs of locals without their permission. Always ask before you snap a picture. Bermudians value politeness and good manners. Always greet people with a friendly "good morning" or "good afternoon" before starting a conversation. Avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics or racial issues, as these can be seen as disrespectful. Littering is frowned upon in Bermuda. Always dispose of your trash properly to keep the island clean. Public displays of drunkenness are considered disrespectful. While it's fine to enjoy a drink, it's important to do so responsibly. Lastly, remember that Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory, so some British customs and etiquette may apply. For example, it's customary to queue in line and wait your turn," said one person in Warwick.
