What do people find most challenging about the culture in Tucker's Town?

"Expats in Tucker's Town often find the slow pace of life challenging, as the local culture values a relaxed and unhurried lifestyle. The high cost of living can also be a significant challenge, as Bermuda is one of the most expensive places to live in the world. Some expats may also struggle with the island's isolation, as it is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, far from other countries. The local dialect and accents can also be difficult to understand for newcomers. Lastly, while Bermudians are generally friendly and welcoming, it can take time for expats to fully integrate into the local community and social circles," explained one person living in Tucker's Town, Bermuda.

What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Tucker's Town for a while?

"If you are planning to stay in Tucker's Town for an extended period, you will need to apply for a residential certificate. This is required for anyone who is not a Bermudian and wishes to live on the island for more than 90 days. If you are planning to work while you are there, you will also need to apply for a work permit. This is required for all non-Bermudians who wish to work in Bermuda. In addition, you will need a valid passport to enter Bermuda. The passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your expected departure from Bermuda. If you are not a citizen of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the European Union, you may also need a visa to enter Bermuda. The visa should be applied for in advance of your trip. Finally, you should also have proof of return or onward travel, such as a return airline ticket. This is to show that you intend to leave Bermuda at the end of your stay. Please note that the requirements may vary depending on your nationality and the purpose of your stay. Therefore, it is recommended to check with the Bermuda Department of Immigration for the most accurate and up-to-date information," said one expat who made the move to Tucker's Town.

What cultural blunders should I try to avoid making in Tucker's Town?

We asked people in Tucker's Town if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. They wrote:

"In Tucker's Town, it's important to respect the local customs and traditions. Dress modestly when not on the beach, as Bermudians tend to dress more formally than in other beach destinations. Avoid discussing sensitive topics such as race, politics, and religion unless you are well acquainted with the person. Bermudians value punctuality, so try not to be late for appointments or social gatherings. It's also considered rude to interrupt someone while they're speaking. When dining, remember to use your utensils properly and avoid eating with your hands unless it's a finger food. It's also considered impolite to leave the table during a meal, unless it's absolutely necessary. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, so try to keep affectionate gestures private. Lastly, Bermudians are known for their friendliness and politeness. Always greet people with a smile and a polite "hello" or "good day". Not doing so can be seen as rude or disrespectful," said one expat in Tucker's Town.
