What cultural blunders should I try to avoid making in Curitiba?

We asked people in Curitiba if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. They wrote:

"It is important to be mindful of cultural norms when visiting Curitiba. It is considered impolite to be late for appointments or social engagements, so it is important to arrive on time. It is also important to dress modestly and conservatively, as Brazilians tend to dress more formally than many other countries. Additionally, it is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions, such as not touching someone without their permission. Finally, it is important to be aware of the local language and to avoid speaking English or any other language without first asking permission," explained one expat living in Curitiba, Brazil.

"I did so many silly things here. I constantly say something wrong. Once in the beginning here in Curitiba, I went grocery shopping. I was looking at the meat and couldn't read the package. I wanted beef cubes. I thought the word on the package said mule so I tried to get someone to help me. I wanted beef, not mule. The butcher could not understand my portuguese - I was asking what animal the meat was from. In the end I pointed and said "mooooo" and he laughed and nodded "Sim, mooooo."," said one person in Curitiba.

In addition to the public healthcare system, Curitiba also has a thriving private healthcare sector, with many residents opting for private health insurance plans. The city is home to several renowned private hospitals and clinics that offer high-quality medical services, often with shorter waiting times and more personalized care than public facilities. These private institutions often have state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained medical professionals, attracting patients from other regions of Brazil and even from other countries. Overall, healthcare services in Curitiba are comprehensive and accessible, with a strong emphasis on both public and private healthcare options. The city's commitment to providing quality healthcare services to its residents has made it a model for other cities in Brazil and around the world," wrote one digital nomad living in Curitiba, Brazil.
