What do people find most challenging about the culture in Kutna Hora?

"Expats in Kutna Horaublic, often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture. Czech is a Slavic language that is considered difficult to learn, especially for English speakers. Another challenge is the reserved nature of the Czech people. They are known for their politeness and respect for personal space, which can sometimes be interpreted as coldness or aloofness by foreigners. This can make it difficult for expats to form close relationships with locals. The Czech Republic, including Kutna Hora, is also a very homogeneous society, and expats might feel like outsiders. This can be particularly challenging for those from more diverse backgrounds. Additionally, the Czech culture is deeply rooted in tradition, and locals may be less open to change or different ways of doing things. This can be frustrating for expats who are used to a more flexible or progressive environment. Lastly, the slower pace of life in Kutna Hora can be a challenge for expats who are used to a faster, more hectic lifestyle. This can be particularly difficult for those who are used to working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments," remarked one member in Kutna Hora.

What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Kutna Hora for a while?

"If you are planning to stay in Kutna Horaublic for an extended period, the type of visa or residency document you need will depend on your nationality and the purpose of your stay. If you are a citizen of a European Union (EU) country, you do not need a visa to stay in the Czech Republic. However, if you plan to stay for more than 30 days, you should register with the Foreign Police Department. If you are a non-EU citizen and you plan to stay for less than 90 days, you may need a Schengen visa, depending on your nationality. This visa allows you to travel freely within the Schengen area, which includes the Czech Republic. If you plan to stay for more than 90 days, you will need to apply for a long-term visa or a long-term residence permit. The type of visa or permit you need will depend on the purpose of your stay, such as work, study, or family reunification. In addition to the visa or permit, you will also need a valid passport. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen area. You may also need to provide proof of sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay, as well as proof of travel insurance that covers medical expenses. Please note that the requirements can change, so it's always a good idea to check the latest information from the Czech Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs or your local Czech embassy or consulate," explained one expat living in Kutna Hora, Czechia.

What cultural blunders should I try to avoid making in Kutna Hora?

We asked people in Kutna Hora if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. They wrote:

"In Kutna Horaublic, it's important to respect the local customs and traditions. Avoid speaking loudly or behaving boisterously in public places, as Czech people are generally reserved and value their personal space. When visiting the Sedlec Ossuary, a chapel decorated with human bones, remember that it's a sacred place, not a tourist attraction. Treat it with the same respect you would any other religious site. Czech people are proud of their language, so try to learn a few basic phrases. However, avoid making jokes about the language or comparing it to other Slavic languages, as this can be seen as disrespectful. Tipping is customary in the Czech Republic, but don't leave the tip on the table. Instead, tell the server how much you want to pay in total, including the tip, when you're paying the bill. Avoid discussing sensitive historical topics, such as the Soviet era or World War II, unless you're well-informed about them and the conversation naturally leads there. Finally, punctuality is highly valued in the Czech Republic. If you're invited to someone's home, make sure to arrive on time and bring a small gift, such as flowers or chocolates," said one expat in Kutna Hora.
