We asked digital nomads and expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"One way to find a place to live in Accra is to search online for rental listings. Websites such as Jumia House, Tonaton, and meQasa are popular rental listing sites in Ghana. Additionally, you can search for rental listings on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. You can also ask friends and family who live in Accra for recommendations. Additionally, expats should consider the safety of the area and the availability of transportation. Finally, expats should look into the availability of recreational activities and cultural events in the area," said one person in Accra.

What are healthcare services like in Accra?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Accra, they replied:

"Healthcare services in Accra, consist of a mix of public and private facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies. The public healthcare system is managed by the Ghana Health Service, which operates several hospitals and clinics throughout the city. These facilities offer a range of services, including primary care, emergency care, maternity care, and specialized treatments for various medical conditions. In addition to public facilities, there are numerous private hospitals and clinics in Accra that cater to both local residents and expatriates. These private facilities often provide a higher standard of care and more advanced medical equipment than public hospitals, but they also tend to be more expensive. Pharmacies are widely available throughout Accra, with both public and private options. They offer a range of medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, as well as basic medical supplies. Despite the availability of healthcare services in Accra, the city faces several challenges in providing adequate care to its residents. These challenges include a shortage of healthcare professionals, limited resources and funding, and a high burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. As a result, many residents may experience long wait times, limited access to specialized care, and a lack of essential medications and supplies. To address these challenges, the government of Ghana has been working to improve healthcare infrastructure, increase funding for healthcare services, and train more healthcare professionals. Additionally, international organizations and non-governmental organizations are also working to support healthcare initiatives in Accra and throughout Ghana," commented a person living in Accra, Ghana.

What are the pros and cons of living in Accra?

"Expats and digital nomads living in Accra, often appreciate the friendly and welcoming nature of the local people, making it easy to form connections and feel at home. They also enjoy the vibrant culture, rich history, and lively music scene that the city offers. The relatively low cost of living, affordable housing, and availability of fresh produce at local markets are other aspects that attract expats and digital nomads to Accra. The city's coastal location provides access to beautiful beaches, and the warm climate is a draw for those looking to escape colder weather. Additionally, Accra serves as a convenient base for exploring other parts of West Africa, with many interesting destinations within a short flight or drive. However, there are also some challenges that expats and digital nomads face while living in Accra. Traffic congestion can be a significant issue, leading to long commutes and frustration. The city's infrastructure may not be as developed as in some other countries, which can result in unreliable internet connections, power outages, and water shortages. Healthcare facilities in Accra may not meet the standards that some expats are accustomed to, and it may be necessary to travel to other countries for certain medical treatments. Additionally, the city can be quite noisy and polluted, which may be a concern for those with health issues or sensitivities. Finally, while many locals speak English, there can still be language barriers and cultural differences that may take some time to adjust to. Overall, living in Accra can be a rewarding experience for expats and digital nomads, but it also comes with its share of challenges," said one member in Accra.
