The city also offers a variety of cultural attractions, such as the Kuwait National Museum and the Kuwait Towers. Salmiya is also home to a number of shopping malls, making it easy to find whatever you need. Public transportation is also available, making it easy to get around the city. The cost of living in Salmiya is relatively low, making it an attractive destination for expats and digital nomads," explained one expat living in Salmiya, Kuwait.

We asked digital nomads and expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"One of the best ways to find a place to live in Salmiya is to search online for rental listings. There are many websites that offer listings of apartments, villas, and other types of housing in the area. Additionally, you can also search for real estate agents in the area who specialize in helping people find housing in Salmiya. You can also ask friends and family who live in the area for recommendations. Finally, you can also look for “For Rent” signs in the area to find potential housing options," explained one person living in Salmiya, Kuwait.

What do I need to know before moving to Salmiya?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Salmiya, they said:

"Before retiring in Salmiya, expats should be aware of the local laws and regulations. It is important to research the cost of living in the area, as well as the availability of healthcare and other services. Additionally, expats should be aware of the cultural norms and expectations in Kuwait, and be prepared to respect them. It is also important to research the visa and residency requirements for expats in Kuwait, and to ensure that all necessary paperwork is in order before arriving. Finally, expats should be aware of the climate in Salmiya, as it can be quite hot and humid during the summer months," said one expat who made the move to Salmiya.

What do people appreciate most about the culture in Salmiya?

"Expats in Salmiya appreciate the hospitality of the local people, the delicious cuisine, and the vibrant culture. They also enjoy the city's modern infrastructure, the wide variety of shopping and entertainment options, and the easy access to the beach. Additionally, expats appreciate the safety and security of the city, as well as the low cost of living," said one person in Salmiya.

What do people find most challenging about the culture in Salmiya?

"Expats in Salmiya often find the local culture to be quite different from what they are used to. Many find the conservative dress code and social norms to be challenging, as well as the lack of public displays of affection. Additionally, the language barrier can be difficult for some expats, as Arabic is the official language of Kuwait. "The university aged people whom I teach are materialistic and often without signs of human caring," explained one foreigner living in Salmiya, Kuwait.

What residency documents or visas did I need if I will be in Salmiya for a while?

"If you plan to stay in Salmiya for a while, you will need to obtain a valid residency visa. This visa can be obtained from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior or from the Kuwaiti Embassy in your home country. You will also need to provide proof of your identity, such as a passport, and proof of your employment or other legal status in Kuwait. Additionally, you may need to provide proof of health insurance and other documents as required by the Kuwaiti government," remarked one member in Salmiya.

"I teach English and in a conversation class I asked a married student how he met his wife. There was a great deal of confusion among the class and then someone explained that he, like everyone else, married his first cousin. I had no idea," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Salmiya.

Finally, it is important to be respectful of local religious beliefs and to avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics or religion," explained one person living in Salmiya, Kuwait.
