"I have just rented a lovely apartment in Hua Hin, Thailand. Hua Hin is about 3 hours south of Bangkok. A great location, on the coast with amazing golf courses. It's a modern city but not nearly as busy as Bangkok. All of the major hotels are here. There is a great mix of modern shopping malls and old markets. My apartment is small but there's just one of me. It's 33 sq. meters. A bedroom, combined kitchen/living room, and a bathroom with a big shower. The building is two years old. It's one block from the ocean and a five-minute walk to a gorgeous shopping mall with grocery store. There is a lovely pool and gym. I am paying 10,000 baht - as of October 2022 that's CDN$400 per month. I'm from Vancouver, Canada. A comparable apartment would be $2000 a month in Vancouver," explained one expat living in Thailand.
"The cost of housing in Hua Hin varies depending on the type of accommodation and location. Generally, the cost of renting a house or apartment in Hua Hin is quite reasonable, with prices ranging from around 5,000 baht per month for a basic studio apartment to around 30,000 baht per month for a luxury villa," said one expat in Hua Hin.

There are a few who have moved here and opened up businesses, usually bars and restaurants, but most are either on winter vacation or permanent vacation. Their priorities, therefore, are socializing, the beach, visiting nearby sites, restaurants. For the Thais who live in Hua Hin, the city is mostly service oriented for the expat and tourist communities. Hua Hin also draws many Thais as a beach vacation location, as well as many Chinese tourists," said one expat in Hua Hin.

Is there a lot of crime in Hua Hin?

"Hua Hin is generally considered to be a safe place to visit, with low levels of crime. However, as with any tourist destination, there are some reports of petty crime such as pickpocketing and bag snatching. It is advisable to take the usual precautions when travelling, such as keeping valuables out of sight and avoiding walking alone at night," wrote one member in Hua Hin.
Is there a lot of diversity? Are people in Hua Hin accepting of differences?
"The Thais, as Buddhists, are very accepting of diversity. However, the expat community's views on diversity will range from those you see in their own countries. The Thai culture is, of course, dominant, but the expat community has also introduced a lot of its varied cultures (mostly food) into the city," remarked one expat living in Hua Hin, Thailand.

What are the visa & residency requirements in Hua Hin?
"In order to visit Hua Hin, visitors must obtain a visa prior to their arrival. The most common type of visa is the tourist visa, which is valid for up to 60 days. To apply for a tourist visa, applicants must submit a valid passport, a completed visa application form, two passport-sized photographs, and proof of financial means. In order to apply for residency in Hua Hin, Thailand, applicants must first obtain a non-immigrant visa. This visa is valid for up to one year and can be extended for up to three years. To apply for a non-immigrant visa, applicants must submit a valid passport, a completed visa application form, two passport-sized photographs, proof of financial means, and a letter of invitation from a Thai citizen or organization. Once the visa is approved, applicants must then apply for a work permit or a residence permit. The work permit is valid for up to one year and can be extended for up to three years. The residence permit is valid for up to five years and can be extended for up to ten years.
