The cost of living in Santa Lucia is relatively low compared to many Western countries. However, the average income is also lower, so it's important to have a reliable source of income or savings. The healthcare system in Honduras is not as advanced as in some Western countries. Private healthcare is available and is generally of a higher standard than public healthcare. It's recommended to have comprehensive health insurance that covers medical evacuation. Safety can be a concern in Honduras, which has one of the highest crime rates in Latin America. Despite being in a foreign country, these homes are designed to offer all the comforts and conveniences that expats are accustomed to in their home countries," remarked one expat who made the move to Santa Lucia.
What is the average cost of housing in Santa Lucia?

"The average cost of housing in Santa Lucia can vary greatly depending on the location and size of the property. For a modest home in a less affluent area, the cost can be quite affordable. However, for a larger home in a more upscale neighborhood, the cost can be significantly higher. On average, the cost of housing in Santa Lucia is considered to be lower than in many other parts of Honduras," said one expat in Santa Lucia.
What should I bring when moving to Santa Lucia?

"When moving to Santa Lucia, you should pack lightweight and breathable clothing due to the tropical climate. Include items like shorts, t-shirts, and sandals, but also pack a few pairs of long pants and long-sleeved shirts for cooler evenings or more formal occasions. Don't forget a good quality rain jacket or umbrella, as Honduras experiences a rainy season. Pack a sturdy pair of walking shoes or hiking boots if you plan on exploring the local terrain. Also, include a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun, along with plenty of high-SPF sunscreen and insect repellent. Bring any prescription medications you need, along with a basic first aid kit. It's also a good idea to pack a water purifier or water purification tablets, as the tap water in Honduras is not always safe to drink. If you're planning on cooking, consider packing some of your favorite spices or hard-to-find ingredients. Also, bring a supply of any preferred toiletries or personal care items, as they may be difficult to find in local stores. Pack important documents like your passport, driver's license, and medical records. Also, bring copies of these documents, and keep them separate from the originals. Don't forget your electronics, like your phone, laptop, and chargers. An international power adapter might also be necessary. Is there a lot of crime in Santa Lucia?
We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered:
"Santa Lucia, is generally considered a safe town with a relatively low crime rate compared to other parts of the country. However, like any other place, it is not completely free from crime. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or bag snatching can occur, especially in crowded areas. Violent crimes are less common but not unheard of. It's always recommended for residents and visitors to take standard precautions to ensure their safety. The local police force in Santa Lucia is active and responsive, contributing to the overall safety of the town," wrote one member in Santa Lucia.
