When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Todos Santos, they said:

"It is important to research the local culture and customs before moving to Todos Santos. Familiarizing yourself with the language of Spanish can be very helpful and can help you better integrate into the local community. Locals tend to be very friendly and welcoming to foreigners and tourists, so it is worth taking the time to learn about the local culture and try to build relationships with the locals. Todos Santos is not an overly large city, so it is important to be aware of safety precautions when traveling around. It is also important to research the medical and health care options in the region, as these may be different from what you are used to. For an expat, it is recommended to have both a Mexican driver's license and car insurance prior to moving. Lastly, make sure to research the cost of living and the availability of jobs in the area you plan on relocating to, as these will affect the quality of lifestyle you can expect to have," remarked one expat living in Todos Santos, Mexico.

Be sure to ask questions about the rental agreement and go over any restrictions or commitments," remarked one expat who made the move to Todos Santos.

What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Todos Santos?

"Expat homes and apartments in Todos Santos typically offer a rustic, Mexican charm with open plan living areas surrounded by comfortable furniture, bright pops of color, and often handmade decorative pieces. Many apartments come with balconies, private terraces, and large windows to take advantage of the incredible views and climate. Outdoor areas often feature a mix of tiled patios and open grass spaces, perfect for outdoor dining and relaxation. Amenities can include air-conditioning, WiFi, and a security system. "When moving to Todos Santos, it is important to pack lightweight, breathable clothing suitable for the warmer climate. Sunscreen and other protection from the elements is also recommended. To stay comfortable in the evenings, adding a sweater and a light jacket to the packing list is a good idea. Additionally, it is a good idea to take along important documents like passports, visas, and any other necessary paperwork, as well as entertainment such as books, music, or other activities. Depending on the length of the move, it may also be helpful to bring basic toiletries, cleaning supplies, and a first aid kit," explained one expat living in Todos Santos, Mexico.

Where should I setup a bank account in Todos Santos?

We asked expats in Todos Santos what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised:

"Before retiring in Todos Santos, expats should be aware of the cost of living and standard of living. Expats should also be prepared to drive outside of the city for medical care, since many services and supplies may not be readily available. It is important for expats to learn some Spanish both for practical reasons and to ensure that they are able to get the most out of their experience. Additionally, an understanding of the local culture and customs can help expats blend in and make the most of their retirement. Finally, expats should also plan for their finances by ensuring they have the money and resources to cover their living expenses while living in Todos Santos," remarked one expat who made the move to Todos Santos.

Will I be able to find a job in Todos Santos?

When we asked people about industries and career opportunities in Todos Santos, they reponded:

"Foreigners in Todos Santos often work in hospitality and tourism, such as hotel jobs and as tour guides, or in the service industry, including jobs in restaurants, bars, and retail. There are also opportunities in construction, farming, and factory work. Other jobs may include teaching English and working as a freelance writer or graphic designer," said one expat in Todos Santos.

"Adapting to the language barrier can be a challenge for expats in Todos Santos. Many locals only speak Spanish, so understanding urban and rural slang can be difficult to learn. Additionally, the cultural norms and way of living can also be unfamiliar, as Todos Santos is a small, tight-knit coastal town with strong traditions, making it difficult for outsiders to become fully accepted into the community. Furthermore, the fact that Todos Santos is a tourist town and the economy is reliant upon foreign visitors makes the cost of living slightly more expensive than other Mexican cities," explained one expat living in Todos Santos, Mexico.

Is there a lot of crime in Todos Santos?

We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered:

"In general, Todos Santos is considered a safe place to visit, with reports of some minor theft-related crimes such as pickpocketing being the most common. Most visitors to the area do not encounter any significant problems. However, it is still always best to be aware of the surroundings and take sensible precautions when travelling anywhere," wrote a member in Todos Santos.

Is there a lot of diversity? Are people in Todos Santos accepting of differences?

"Yes, there is a great deal of diversity in Todos Santos. Since the population is mainly made up of people of Spanish and Indigenous descent, there are also people of diverse backgrounds living in the area, such as North Americans, Europeans and Afro-Mexicans. This diversity is widely accepted within the local community and outside visitors are treated warmly by the locals. Todos Santos also celebrates its cultural diversity with various festivals and events throughout the year," remarked one expat who made the move to Todos Santos.

What are the schools in Todos Santos like?

"The Colegio Rural San Gerardo is one of the best international schools in Todos Santos. Conveniently located in the center of this small town, it offers small class sizes, personalized learning and real-life experiences. Its curriculum is based on the academic system of the United States and in addition to traditional instruction, there are also English as a Second Language classes, foreign exchange programs and sports activities. The Mision Vizcainas Bilingue is one of the best bilingual schools in Todos Santos. It has an integrated curriculum that allows students to learn through a variety of situations and perspectives. The school runs from kindergarten to High School, and covers not only language, but also science, math, and Spanish literature. The school also incorporates lots of outdoor activities, such as hikes, retreats, and beach days. The Colegio Todos Santos is another great international school in Todos Santos. It provides students with a high quality education taught in both English and Spanish, focusing on the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The school offers a range of extracurricular activities such as sport, music and theatre, as well as summer camps," commented one expat when asked about in Todos Santos.

"If you are looking for an easy transition in a small community this is a very good choice. Good for the family looking for involvement and a less traditional path," explained one expat in Todos Santos, Mexico with kids at Escuela Pacifica.

"Expats in Todos Santos advise researching the area carefully before committing to any housing arrangement. "Healthcare and health insurance in Todos Santos can be expensive, depending on the type of care and insurance coverage needed. Generally, basic healthcare services such as doctor visits and prescription medications are relatively affordable, while more specialized services such as surgeries and hospital stays can be more costly. Health insurance plans vary in cost and coverage, so it is important to research the different options available to find the best plan for one's needs," commented one expat who moved to Todos Santos.

Is the cost of living in Todos Santos high?

We asked people about the cost of living in Todos Santos, they wrote:

"The cost of living in Todos Santos can be very affordable. The rental price for a nice one bedroom apartment in Todos Santos, Mexico can range from around $400 to $1,200 a month, while a nice two bedroom apartment can cost between $600 and $2,000 a month. An average dinner for two at a moderately priced restaurant in Todos Santos, Mexico usually costs around $100," said an expat in Todos Santos.

What are the visa & residency requirements in Todos Santos?

"To visit Todos Santos, visitors from certain countries must have a valid visa. The process of applying for a visa involves preparing the necessary documents, submitting the application and paying the visa application fee. Eligible visas include tourist, business and research visas. To establish residency in Todos Santos, Mexico, foreigners must apply for a “Forma Migratorio Múltiple” (FMM). The application process involves completing the FMM form, submitting the form in person at a local immigration office with supporting documents, and paying applicable fees. The FMM document can be used to enter Mexico multiple times with a validity period of up to 180 days. Once the FMM has been issued, a foreigner may then apply for formal residency at the Mexican government’s Institute for Mexican Nationals Abroad (IME). The IME application process involves completing an application form, submitting supporting documents and paying processing fees. If approved, the foreigner will be issued a permanent resident card, which requires renewal after every two years," remarked one expat in Todos Santos.

"Todos Santos offers an idyllic lifestyle and an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It boasts stunning natural landscapes and a laid-back vibe, inviting those looking to relax and unwind, while still offering a range of exciting activities to partake in. Expats are drawn to the low cost of living, a welcoming community and the slow rhythm of life as well as proximity to various beach destinations. Todos Santos is also home to many artists and musicians, drawing those looking for a vibrant cultural experience," mentioned one expat inTodos Santos.
