Additionally, there are many opportunities for skilled professionals, such as engineers, IT professionals, and accountants," remarked one expat in Salalah.

"University - professors of English language Port - Management positions for port construction & operations," explained one expat living in Salalah.

What is life like in Salalah?

When we asked people living in Salalah what life is like and how people spend their time, they said:

"Expats come here mainly for management positions and for the rest their life revolves around family and friends. There aren't many social activities that are organized so it's a bit do-it-yourself," said one person in Salalah.

"Life for expats and digital nomads in Salalah is generally quite pleasant. The city is known for its beautiful beaches, lush greenery, and friendly locals. The cost of living is relatively low, making it an attractive destination for those looking to stretch their budget. The city is also well-connected, with good internet access and plenty of coworking spaces. Expats and digital nomads can find plenty of activities to keep them entertained, from exploring the nearby mountains and wadis to visiting the many cultural sites in the city. Overall, Salalah is an ideal destination for those looking for a relaxed lifestyle in a beautiful setting," remarked one expat in Salalah.

What do expats in Salalah appreciate most about the local culture?

"I love the sophistication of the people here. Although they keep to themselves they are always friendly and hospitable. Most of them are just plain lovely," explained one expat living in Salalah.

"Expats in Salalah appreciate the hospitality of the local people, the beautiful natural scenery, and the relaxed atmosphere of the city. They also enjoy the traditional Omani cuisine, the vibrant markets, and the unique cultural experiences that can be found in the city. Additionally, expats appreciate the fact that Salalah is a safe and secure city, with a low crime rate and a strong sense of community," said one expat in Salalah.

What do expats find most challenging?

"Expats in Salalah often find the local culture to be quite different from what they are used to. The conservative nature of the culture can be challenging for some, as it is important to dress modestly and respect local customs. Additionally, the language barrier can be difficult for expats, as Arabic is the official language of Oman and English is not widely spoken. Furthermore, the hot and humid climate can be difficult to adjust to, especially for those coming from cooler climates. Finally, the lack of public transportation can make it difficult to get around the city," said one expat in Salalah.

"Covering most parts of my body even when it's scorching hot. I also just cannot understand why women would agree to being in such a submissive role," said a person living in Salalah.

Is there a lot of crime in Salalah?

We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered:

"Salalah is generally considered to be a safe city, with low levels of crime. The city is well-policed and there are few reports of serious crime. Petty crime such as pickpocketing and bag snatching can occur, so visitors should take the usual precautions," remarked one expat in Salalah.

Is there a lot of diversity? Are people in Salalah accepting of differences?

"Salalah is a diverse city in Oman, with a population made up of people from many different backgrounds. The city is known for its acceptance of different cultures, religions, and ethnicities, and is a place where people of all backgrounds can feel welcome and accepted. Salalah is a place where people of different backgrounds can come together and celebrate their differences," said a person living in Salalah.

"Salalah is a conservative Muslim town where most local women still are completely covered. As a non- Muslim expat you can wear what ever you like but it is very much appreciated if you cover your legs & arms. Muslim expat women are expected to cover up much more. The contact with locals is usually work-related but the people of Salalah are interested in us "strangers"," explained one expat living in Salalah.

What are the schools in Salalah like?

"The Indian School Salalah (ISS) is one of the best international schools in Salalah. It is a co-educational, English-medium school that follows the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. The school provides a holistic education to its students, with a focus on academic excellence, physical and mental well-being, and character building. The school also offers a range of extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and art. The Salalah Bilingual School (SBS) is another excellent school in Salalah, Oman. It is a bilingual school that follows the British National Curriculum and the Omani Ministry of Education curriculum. The school provides a comprehensive education to its students, with a focus on academic excellence, physical and mental well-being, and character building. The school also offers a range of extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and art. The Salalah International School (SIS) is another great school in Salalah, Oman. It is an international school that follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. The school provides a comprehensive education to its students, with a focus on academic excellence, physical and mental well-being, and character building. The school also offers a range of extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and art," said one parent with children at in Salalah.

"The British School Salalah is small but very intimate. This is especially good if English is not your child's first language. The British Curriculum is followed and the level of education seems to be high," commented one expat when asked about British School Salalah in Salalah.
