"One option for finding a place to live in Phan Thiet is to search online for rental listings. Websites such as Expat.com, Vietnam Real Estate, and Vietnam Housing offer a variety of rental listings in the area. Additionally, you can search for rental listings on popular classifieds websites such as Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. You can also contact local real estate agents in the area to inquire about available rental properties. Additionally, you can ask friends and family who live in the area for recommendations," explained one expat living in Phan Thiet, Vietnam.

"Pure business matter; we could lease an industrial land plot on good conditions; housing was more difficult because of regulations at that moment," said one person in Phan Thiet.

What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Phan Thiet?

"Expat homes and apartments in Phan Thiet are typically modern and comfortable. Most have air conditioning, cable TV, and internet access. Many have balconies or terraces with views of the ocean or the city. The apartments are usually spacious and well-furnished, with plenty of storage space. The kitchens are often equipped with modern appliances and plenty of counter space. The bathrooms are usually equipped with showers and bathtubs. Expat homes and apartments in Phan Thiet are typically located in secure, gated communities with access to amenities such as swimming pools, gyms, and playgrounds," said one expat in Phan Thiet.

"I live in a 1 bedroom house in the back of my office, for the sake of security. this is not typical for expats, for a 2 bedroom house in this area you pay around 500 US$," remarked one member in Phan Thiet.

What is the average cost of housing in Phan Thiet?

If you are thinking about moving to Phan Thiet, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"The cost of housing in Phan Thiet is generally quite affordable. Prices vary depending on the size and location of the property, but the average cost for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is typically around $200 to $300 per month. Outside of the city center, prices can be even lower," explained one expat living in Phan Thiet, Vietnam.

"Housing cost is much lower than in Europe; my house rental (include my office) is 150 US$, electricity, water and gas and cable TV is around 150 US$; food cost me about 400 US$ / month. I don't eat meat a lot; price for pork for instance, doubled since 1 year ago. 1 night partying cost me around 100 US$ (Whiskey or cognac, soft drinks and tip for the waitress)," said one person in Phan Thiet.

Should I buy or rent a home in Phan Thiet?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Phan Thiet, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in Phan Thiet can be a great investment, as the city is growing in popularity as a tourist destination. The cost of living in Phan Thiet is relatively low, making it an attractive option for those looking to purchase a home. Renting a home in Phan Thiet can also be a great option, as it allows you to enjoy the city without the commitment of a long-term purchase. Additionally, renting can be a great way to explore the city and its surrounding areas before deciding if you want to make a more permanent move," remarked one member in Phan Thiet.

What do I need to know when buying property in Phan Thiet?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Phan Thiet, they said:

"1. It is important to research the local market and understand the current trends in the area before making a purchase. 2. It is important to understand the legal requirements for purchasing property in Vietnam, including any restrictions on foreign ownership. 3. It is important to have a clear understanding of the local infrastructure and amenities available in the area. 4. It is important to have a clear understanding of the local rental market and potential rental yields. 6. It is important to have a clear understanding of the local currency and exchange rate. 7. Are foreigners allowed to own property in Phan Thiet?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Phan Thiet, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Phan Thiet. However, there are certain restrictions and conditions that they need to follow. Foreigners can only own a maximum of 30% of the total units in a condominium building or up to 250 houses in a single administrative area. They can own the property for a maximum period of 50 years, which can be extended under certain circumstances. Additionally, foreigners must have a valid visa and are required to use the property for residential purposes only. It is also important to note that foreign individuals and organizations can only purchase property from developers who have been granted permission to sell to foreign buyers," explained one person living in Phan Thiet, Vietnam.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Phan Thiet what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Phan Thiet, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, washing machine, and air conditioning unit. Other common appliances may include a microwave, water heater, and television," said one person in Phan Thiet.
