Prices for a one-bedroom apartment can range from around $400 to $800 per month, while a three-bedroom villa can cost anywhere from $800 to $1,500 per month," explained one expat living in Salalah, Oman.

"Buying a home in Salalah can be a great investment, as the city is growing rapidly and property values are increasing. Renting a home in Salalah can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to buying a home, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more cost-effective in the short-term. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Salalah should be based on individual needs and preferences," said one expat in Salalah.
What do I need to know when buying property in Salalah?
When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Salalah, they said:
"When buying property in Salalah, it is important to understand the local laws and regulations. It is also important to research the local market and be aware of any potential risks associated with the purchase. It is also important to ensure that the property is properly registered and that all necessary paperwork is in order. Additionally, it is important to be aware of any taxes or fees associated with the purchase. Finally, it is important to ensure that the property is in good condition and that all necessary repairs and maintenance have been completed," wrote one expat who made the move to Salalah.
Are foreigners allowed to own property in Salalah?
When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Salalah, they said...
"Foreigners are allowed to own property in Salalah, but with certain restrictions. The Omani government has designated specific areas, known as Integrated Tourism Complexes (ITCs), where non-Omanis can purchase freehold property. These properties can be used for residential or investment purposes, and owning a property in an ITC also grants the buyer a residency visa. However, foreigners are not allowed to own agricultural or commercial land in Oman. It is essential for foreign buyers to consult with a local real estate expert and legal advisor to ensure compliance with all regulations and procedures when purchasing property in Salalah," said one expat in Salalah.
What appliances are typically included in a rental?
We asked foreigners in Salalah what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:
"Rental properties in Salalah typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, washing machine, and air conditioning unit. Other common appliances may include a microwave, dishwasher, and water heater. Furniture may also be included in some rental properties," said one person in Salalah.
