On the other hand, if you are not interested in making a long-term commitment and just want to experience Cannes for a shorter period of time, then renting a home may be the better option. "- Ensure that you work with a local real estate agent experienced in dealing with foreign buyers, as they can help you with the specific legislation and procedure applicable to purchasing property in France. - Familiarise yourself with the local property market and areas of Cannes to find a property that best suits your needs. - Consider the additional costs of buying a property in France, such as fees for registering your purchase, payment for notary services and any additional taxes related to the purchase. - Make sure you arrange the required contacts with utility companies that are necessary before taking possession of the property. - Consider the requirements of the French mortgage system – often more stringent than those in other European countries – when deciding how to finance the purchase. - Ensure that your contract includes a detailed description of the title to the property, including any easements, pledges or restrictions as well as enumerating the responsibilities of both you and the seller. - Participate in the property inspection to ensure that the property is in good condition before you purchase," said one person in Cannes.
