"Apartment in a house. Not necessarily. Bigger budgets lived in fantastic farm houses a bit outside - in the south," said one person in New Delhi.

"A typical expat home or apartment in New Delhi is usually modern and spacious, with air conditioning, a balcony, and a fully-equipped kitchen. Many expat homes and apartments also have a separate living and dining area, as well as a separate bedroom. "Higher. In my country, for something comparable, maybe we would pay apron 1000 - 1500 eur," remarked one foreigner who made the move to New Delhi.

"The cost of housing in New Delhi can vary greatly depending on the area and type of accommodation. Generally, the average cost of renting a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is around ?25,000 per month, while a three-bedroom apartment in the suburbs can cost around ?15,000 per month. Buying a property in New Delhi can be expensive, with the average price of a two-bedroom apartment in the city center being around ?1.5 crore," explained one person living in New Delhi, India.

Should I buy or rent a home in New Delhi?

If you have not spent a lot of time in New Delhi, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in New Delhi can be a great investment, as the city is growing rapidly and property values are increasing. However, it is important to consider the cost of living in the city, as well as the availability of housing. Renting a home in New Delhi can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to a long-term purchase, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more cost-effective in the short-term. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in New Delhi should be based on individual needs and preferences," explained one person living in New Delhi, India.

What do I need to know when buying property in New Delhi?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in New Delhi, they said:

"When buying property in New Delhi, it is important to research the area and the property thoroughly. Make sure to check the title deed and other legal documents to ensure that the property is free from any encumbrances. It is also important to check the zoning regulations and building codes in the area to ensure that the property is suitable for the intended use. "Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in New Delhi. The Indian government has made it possible for foreign nationals to purchase property in India, provided they meet certain criteria. Additionally, they must provide proof of their identity and residence, as well as proof of their source of funds. Once these requirements are met, foreigners can purchase property in India," remarked one foreigner who made the move to New Delhi.

We asked foreigners in New Delhi what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In a rental property in New Delhi, tenants can typically expect to find a refrigerator, stove, washing machine, and air conditioner. Other common appliances include a microwave, water heater, and television. Depending on the property, tenants may also find a dishwasher, water purifier, and other small appliances," wrote one expat who made the move to New Delhi.
