Prices for one-bedroom apartments in the city center range from around $400 to $1,000 per month, while two-bedroom apartments can cost up to $1,500 per month. In the suburbs, one-bedroom apartments can cost as little as $200 per month, while two-bedroom apartments can cost up to $800 per month," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Bishkek.

Should I buy or rent a home in Bishkek?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Bishkek, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"When deciding whether to buy or rent a home in Bishkek, it is important to consider your budget, lifestyle, and long-term plans. Buying a home in Bishkek can be a great investment, as property values are likely to increase over time. However, it is important to factor in the cost of maintenance and repairs, as well as the cost of a down payment. Renting a home in Bishkek can be a more affordable option, and it can provide more flexibility if you are not sure how long you will be living in the city. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Bishkek should be based on your individual needs and preferences," remarked one member in Bishkek.

What do I need to know when buying property in Bishkek?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Bishkek, they said:

"When buying property in Bishkek, it is important to understand the local laws and regulations regarding real estate. It is also important to research the local market and be aware of any potential risks associated with the purchase. It is also important to ensure that the property is properly registered and that all necessary documents are in order. Additionally, it is important to be aware of any taxes or fees associated with the purchase of the property. It is advisable for foreigners to consult with a local real estate agent or lawyer to ensure they are following the proper procedures and regulations when purchasing property in Bishkek," said one person in Bishkek.

We asked foreigners in Bishkek what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In a rental property in Bishkek, tenants can typically expect to find a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Other common appliances include a microwave, dishwasher, and air conditioning unit. Additionally, some rental properties may include a television, internet connection, and other amenities," explained one foreigner living in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
