What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Brisbane?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Brisbane about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"1. It is important to research the range of public and private hospitals in Brisbane so you can make an informed decision when selecting a hospital to give birth. 2. Don't forget to enquire into the range of prenatal classes available, including those in the public system, to make sure you have the best possibe support before, during and after your pregnancy. 3. Consider joining a mother's group or a playgroup for children in your local area- this may be a good way to meet other people and connect with your local community. 4. Look into the range of activities and classes that may be available for your baby- such as swimming, music and movement programs which can be beneficial for development. 5. It is important to think about obtaining health insurance to cover any medical expenses associated with the pregnancy and birth, especially if you are using a private hospital. 6. Make sure to contact baby health nurses or other health professionals available in your area to access advice and support. 7. Take the time to explore your local area and Brisbane in order to get a better understanding of the city and to familiarise yourself with services that you may require for your baby," said another expat in Brisbane, Australia, Australia.
