What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Quito?

Answer this Question

We asked people in Quito if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"It is important to be mindful of local customs and traditions when visiting Quito. Show respect by dressing modestly, avoiding public displays of affection, and being mindful of conversational topics such as religion or politics. As in many countries, it is considered rude to discuss someone's income or to discuss negative aspects of Ecuadorian culture. Additionally, it is important to be respectful of the country's laws, including those regarding drug and alcohol use. Finally, it is important to ask before taking photographs of people or places that are considered sacred in Quito, Ecuador," wrote a member who made the move to Quito, Ecuador, Ecuador.
