"Yes. I was speaking with a bi-lingual Mexican man and I told him that I was very happy because people here must think I am Mexican. He asked me why I felt that way. I said "Well..everyone freely and openly just start speaking to me in Spanish, so they must think I'm Mexican". He looked at me with a smile and said "That's because they don't know how to speak English" Oh boy, did I feel silly....we had a really good laugh at that one," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Tequisquiapan, Mexico.
"It is important to show respect when visiting Tequisquiapan by avoiding making any cultural faux pas. For example, avoid wearing revealing clothing in public and always be mindful of local customs and codes of behavior, such as avoiding verbal or physical displays of affection in public. Additionally, attempt to learn at least basic Spanish phrases and use respectful language when interacting with locals. Furthermore, it is important to be mindful of local cultural beliefs, such as being aware of how the people may view some western customs or behaviors.
