What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Playa del Carmen?

We asked people in Playa del Carmen if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"It is important to be respectful of the local culture when visiting Playa del Carmen. Therefore, it is important to be aware of and avoid certain cultural faux pas. To best ensure respect for the locals, one should avoid using language that is inappropriate or offensive, dress modestly while out in public, not touch anyone without their consent, and attempting to barter in markets, as this is considered highly disrespectful. Also, it is important to avoid negatively expressing opinions on local customs or challenging societal norms, as this can be seen as offensive to local people," remarked another expat in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
