What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Mumbai. They wrote...
"Expats in Mumbai often find the local culture to be quite different from what they are used to. One of the most challenging aspects of the local culture is the language barrier, as many locals speak Hindi or Marathi, which can be difficult for expats to understand. Additionally, the local customs and etiquette can be difficult to navigate, as they are often quite different from those of the expat's home country. Furthermore, the traffic and transportation system can be overwhelming for expats, as it is often congested and chaotic. Finally, the climate can be difficult to adjust to, as Mumbai is hot and humid for much of the year," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Mumbai, India.
"I work from home and this helps. I do miss being part of a small community and family," commented one expat who made the move to Mumbai, India.
