"Learn Italian! The vast majority of Milanese do not speak English. Bring traditional yet elegant clothing (the Milanese frown on anything flashy or ostentatious) and expect the mentality to be conservative and somewhat behind what one would expect from a city as well known for it's industry, fashion business and financial center as Milan," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Milan, Italy.
"Before retiring in Milan, you should become familiar with the language, as most locals do not speak English. You will also need to ensure you are familiar with Italian tax laws and other regulations that may apply to foreign residents. Additionally, it is important to familiarize yourself with the cost of living in Milan and to ensure you have a reliable source of income. You should also research the medical care available, as well as explore the different types of retirement housing options. Lastly, you should familiarize yourself with the cultural and entertainment options available in the city, in order to make the most of your retirement," commented one expat who made the move to Milan, Italy.
