What should I pack when moving to Amman?
We asked people living in Amman to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded...
"When moving to Amman, you should pack clothing suitable for the local climate, including lightweight clothes for the hot summers and warmer layers for the cooler winters. Bring modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, as well as a few dressier outfits for special occasions. Don't forget comfortable walking shoes, as well as sandals for the warmer months. Pack essential toiletries, such as toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and any personal hygiene items you may need. It's also a good idea to bring a small first aid kit with basic medications, such as pain relievers, allergy medicine, and any prescription medications you may need. Bring important documents, such as your passport, visa, driver's license, and any other identification you may need. Make sure to have copies of these documents stored in a safe place, as well as digital copies saved online. Pack any electronics you may need, such as your phone, laptop, and chargers. Don't forget to bring a power adapter, as the electrical outlets in Jordan may be different from those in your home country. Bring some personal items that will make your new home feel more comfortable, such as photos, small decorations, and any sentimental items that are important to you. You may also want to pack a few books, games, or other forms of entertainment for your downtime. If you're planning on cooking at home, consider bringing a few essential kitchen items, such as your favorite spices, a good knife, and any specialty cooking tools you may need. However, keep in mind that many kitchen items can be purchased locally in Amman. Lastly, pack a small amount of local currency (Jordanian dinars) for immediate expenses upon arrival, as well as a credit or debit card that works internationally. This will help you cover any unexpected costs and make your transition to life in Amman smoother," explained one expat living in Amman, Jordan.
