As a foreigner living in Ho Chi Minh City, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Ho Chi Minh City if they have access to public healthcare in Ho Chi Minh City. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"As a foreigner living in Ho Chi Minh City, you will have access to public healthcare, but the quality and availability of services may not be up to the standards you are used to in your home country. Public hospitals in Vietnam are often overcrowded, and the staff may not speak English fluently. Additionally, the facilities and equipment may be outdated, and there might be a lack of certain medications or treatments. Many expats and foreigners choose to use private hospitals or clinics, which offer better quality care and English-speaking staff, but at a higher cost. It is recommended to have comprehensive health insurance to cover any medical expenses while living in Vietnam," said a member in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
