What do people like (and dislike) about Windhoek?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Windhoek, they replied...

"Expats and digital nomads living in Windhoek, often appreciate the city's friendly and welcoming locals, who make it easy for newcomers to feel at home. They also enjoy the pleasant climate, with warm days and cool nights, as well as the beautiful natural surroundings, including stunning landscapes and wildlife. The relatively low cost of living is another attractive feature for expats and digital nomads, as it allows them to maintain a comfortable lifestyle without breaking the bank. Additionally, the city offers a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking, wildlife safaris, and sandboarding, which cater to adventure enthusiasts. However, there are also some challenges that expats and digital nomads may face while living in Windhoek. One of the main concerns is the limited availability of reliable and fast internet, which can be a significant drawback for those who rely on it for work or staying connected with friends and family. Another issue is the lack of public transportation, which can make getting around the city difficult without a car. This can be particularly challenging for those who are not comfortable driving on the left side of the road or navigating the city's sometimes poorly maintained roads. Safety and security can also be a concern, as petty crime and theft are not uncommon in Windhoek. Expats and digital nomads are advised to take precautions, such as not walking alone at night and being vigilant with their belongings. Lastly, some expats and digital nomads may find the limited variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options in Windhoek to be a downside. While there are some good restaurants and shops, the city does not offer the same level of variety and cultural experiences as larger, more cosmopolitan cities," commented one expat who made the move to Windhoek, Namibia.
